  • Info needed for new auto

I have a question that doesn't actually pertain to Meguir's products. I can't WAIT until I have a house so I can take care of my car on my own, but I'm stuck in an apartment that gives me a warning for just opening my hood.

I'm picking up my new Scion tC tomorrow, and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for folks that have to use car washes. There's a Simoniz joint nearby that offers all kinds of treatments, but I'd like to hear from someone who actually has some knowledge first.

Hopefully, I've made my post clear enough. I don't always make myself clear, sorry.

    TIA

i would say use a coin op if you can't wash your car in your house. I live in a house but the local bylaws don't let me wash my car

so go to a coin op and bring your own stuff (buckets, grit guard, wash soap, wash mits, drying towels and QD)
some places dont let you take your own stuff in so try your best to get the car is as clean as possible

i am not a big fan of the "touch-less washes" because some of them if not all of them cause swirls

i hope this helps and enjoy your new car!

I used the coin car wash before. The thing is make sure the brush has soft brissle's. The brissle's can make scratches on your paint if they are not soft.

Very cool! Thank you. Any ideas for car washes? I try to find the touch-free ones, but they don't really get a car very clean. Are there any of the soft-touch places that don't swirl the bejeezus out of your paint?

Not sure why I didn't think of taking my own stuff to the coin-op. Great idea! Now I need to stock up on some Meguiar's stuff. I've been reading around and trying to learn what I need.

You guys are hardcore! I hope I can learn to get the results that others are posting. These vehicles are beautiful!

Personally, I would NEVER use the brushes at a coin-op. You don't know what has been washed before you and what kind of crud is inside them, even if they are soft. I've seen people using the brushes to remove mud and grit from their 4-wheel drives.

The trouble with taking your own stuff is that most coin-ops don't allow bucket washing. They want you to use their soap and rinse stuff and it also annoys other customers who may be waiting for a wash bay at busy times......weekends, sunny days. You could probably get away with bucket washing during non busy times.....early morning, late evening, during the week. Contact the owner of the coin-op and get their feedback. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with bucketwashing during the off-hours.

Excellent thought. A little etiquette goes a looong way.

                Thanks

Try looking in your local yellow pages for a detail place that does quick hand washes . I have several in my area that charge $10.00 I know thats expensive but it's better than your touch free car wash which only cleans off 85% of dirt . Also try your local DIY places early morning or later in the evening 8-9:00 pm it should be empty so you can clean your car without looking over your shoulder.

                    HOOWEE! Expensive!?!?!??!?

Lets see, a car comes in the owner wants a hand wash. I charge him $10. I have two guys working on it at lets say $7 an hour and they do it in 1/2 hour. GREAT, I just made $3.00!!!

Oh wait, let me take out my workers comp, rent, product cost, electric bill, water bill, taxes, etc......

                    Aww heck I give up!

I woundn't take it anywhere that charged less than $45-$50 for a hand car wash.

Prior to owning a house I always took my stuff to the coin op. I went late at night so I wouldn't bother other people. Like others said say no way to the cool looking tri-color foaming brush!

Looks like I'll be going to Autozone tonite to buy a bucket and some soap

I've got a further question then: I just picked up my car Friday and was told not to wax it. Is this reliable info, or should I go ahead?

                        Thanks very much, Everyone
