  • Problem with Deep Crystal & W7006

    Hey guys,

I went out this weekend and finally did it!

Bought the Porter Cable 7424, backing plate and a couple of pads. I couldn't find the W9006 to use with the Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner, so I went with the W7006.

I applied some of the product after washing and claying on the hood of my car (about 12 Degrees C outside). I used the Polisher with the speed setting 2 and applied it on the car, and then when I dried to polish it off with the Polisher (speed setting 4-5) it didn't work. After that I tried to use a cotton cloth and wipe it off, and it smeared all over. It took some hard rubbing to finally take it off.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to apply the product using just a regular applicator pad and then polish it off using the Polisher and the W7006 OR if I have the wrong pad altogether!

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Well I'm not sure where you're getting your information for product selection and technique, but it's not from this forum.

Meguiar's doesn't recommend using our cutting pad with the dual action polisher. (This is posted at least once a week and probably more often than that on this forum).

The Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a chemical cleaner only and ineffective at removing swirls by machine.

You need to get a polishing pad and a cleaner/polish.

    I would suggest reading this...

      Hi Mike,

      Thanks for the quick reply!

I did go through the thread, but wasn't able to figure out how to remove the cleaner. This is the cleaner that I have right now:

I have a W8006 pad, but cannot use the same pad for both the cleaner and the wax, right? If not, I'll go out and buy another W8006.

If I apply the product with the W8006, how do I remove it?

      I also have:

      Quik Detailer + Clay Bar
      Show Car Shine
      NXT Wax

I'll be doing a complete exterior detail on the weekend, and will have some before and after pics as well...

The car isn't too bad, it's only 4 years old, black in colour and hasn't really been sitting under a tree. I give it a wash regularly, 2-3 times a month. So I don't think I'll be requiring any of the more aggressive products.

Your help would be much appreciated.

      Thanks again!

To remove a compound, paint cleaner, cleaner/polish, pure polish or any type of wax you wipe it off carefully using a clean soft, 100% Cotton terry cloth towel or a clean soft microfiber.

Here's the basics for using a dual action polisher to detail a car and get professional results while keeping it simple.
        • 1) Wash Car
          2) Clay Car
          3) Machine clean and polish car using M80 Speed Glaze with W-8006 on 5.0 Speed Setting
          4) Apply wax using W-9006 on 3.0 Speed Setting
          5) Remove wax and repeat a second application of wax.

Also, don't forget Meguiar's general guidelines that cleaners and polishes don't need to dry. Once you've worked them, wipe them off. The waxes are the products that should dry before removing them.

            Thanks again guys...

            A few more questions:

What would I do with the W7006 pad that I have? What is this pad used for specifically?

Also, what can I use to wipe off the wax/polish/cleaner using the PorterCable? (ie: what pad/bonnet/backing plate would I need?)

and is the white pad that came with the PorterCable any good?

Use the 7006 pad to remove the wax, But you will need to buy and place a Gold Class Bonnet over top of it.

                Hey Jeff,

Thanks! Would an Ultimate Bonnet do to remove the wax? I have a friend who has a couple of packs laying around, so that would save me the purchase.

Lastly, how would I remove the cleaner/polish with the PC?

                      Hey,

I would remove the cleaner or polish by hand using a high quality MF towel.

And yes...the Ultimate Bonnet works fantastic over a W-7006 pad for product removal. Use the PC at speed 5 for product removal.

                        Hey Guys,

                        Just an update:

I started the detail on my car today.

                        1. Washed the car
                        2. Dried the car
                        3. Clayed the car (used water as lube)
                        4. Dried the car again
                        5. Used #80 Speed Glaze with the W8006 on the DA (speed setting 5).

Basically did the whole car, took a good 3 hours. The results were good, but not great. The car still has a good share of swirls... not sure how else to go about.

I did as Mike suggested, 1' x 1' portions at a time, I overlapped, applied the suggested pressure/weight, so on and so forth. I used a Microfiber cloth to wipe off the cleaner/polish.

I did notice a difference on the paint, a lot of the swirls did disappear, however with enough sunlight, you can still see quite a few.

                        Any suggestions?

I haven't applied the Nxt Liquid Wax yet... I'll be doing that tomorrow... not sure if the wax is going to make a difference with the swirls.

                          Hey,

If there are still deeper swirls, then you will need to go to a more aggressive product like #83 DACP. Use the #83 in the same fashion, then follow-up with the #80 over that area again. Make sure to use one pad per product. And remove using a quality MF towel.

                          Give that a try!
