  • Need Help!!! My friend detailed my car but.....

my friend's friend agreed to detail my car since my friend told me he does a good job. and it's been cold here lately and i couldnt work on in my garage (dark and cold). so i thought it's worth paying to have someone do it.

well it looked good (tho it only took him 3 hrs and he called it "full detail") untill i saw my car under the sunlight.

here are some pix of my car right now. what do you think i can fix all this bad swirl marks (even worse than it was).

    the hood

    the trunk

please give me some advice. I'll tell you what i have. I have Portar cable orbital buffer with cutting pad, polishing pad x2, and finishing pad (all from meguire's). Swirl Remover 2.0, Dual Action polisher, Show car glaze, polymer sealant, yellow wax, next gen wax.

what is the best way to fix this problem? i think its warm enough for me to work on my car. or is there anything i should get besides what i have????

    thanks!

Is that an M3? If so, they have hard paint!!!!!!!!!

Armed with what you have I would use DACP #82 with your PC.

Plan on spending allot of time rubbing it in good.

I estimate DACP with PC will take you about 6 to 7 hours if it removes the buffer marks.

If that doesn't work you will have to step up to a rotory.

      5-6 hours just DACP??????? OMG...

so i assume DACP with Cutting pad? and speed should be set to 5? then 5-6hurs of happy polishing....man

i am not good enough to use a rotary...

        Hey so gti

        OMG!!!

I agree with Joe, use #83 DACP , and a W-8006 Polishing pad with the PC set to speed 5. I too estimate 6-7 hours at least to remove the holograms!

If that does not work, then I am sorry to say but you may have to take it to a professional that knows how to use a rotary buffer.

          No.

Other forums and companies recommend using cutting pads with dual action polishers but Meguiar's does not make this recommendation because while the cutting pad will remove the defects it will leave the finish hazy looking and then you'll be unhappy and need to fix this also.

(We help people undo this damage on our forum )

          Stick with this routine,

          Wash car
Remove swirls using M83/W-8006/PC - Speed Setting 5.0
          Re-polish each panel using, M80/W-8006/PC - Speed Setting 5.0
          Apply Wax x 2 using a W-9006 on the PC - Speed Setting 3.0

Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

You can skip the M80 Step if the finish looks good to after the M83 step, or if your nuts about your car and really want a high gloss, wet look finish then do that step, it's kind of up to you.

When you're doing this repair job, have your friend come over and watch you so he can learn how to do it right the next time.

          Good luck!

            Hi:

Sorry to hear about the problem.

Clean a small area and do a test spot, say 2' x 2'.

See if your can correct the problems in that area before trying the whole car.

Meguair's does not recommend using the cutting pad with a DA, will tend in most cases to cloud the paint. The polishing pad is what you should use.

            Good luck.

I'll bet your blood pressure got pretty high. The good news is it sounds like these guys believe it is fixable. I hope that is true because that is what mine looks like. Post pics after you get it perfect. Maybe then (but only then) you will be able to sit back and laugh about having paid somebody to screw up the finish on your very nice ride.

This is exactly the routine I just used to take the swirls out of my car last week and it looks great! Mike knows what he is typing

                    update!

i did work on the small section to see if i need to take it to professional or work on myself. here is my result. the inside of red box is where i worked on.

so i think i can fix it by myself but man, it takes time!

I think this should be the order of things:

                      1) Punch friend in the arm.

                      2) Cut the cord off his polisher.

                      3) Do what Mike says.

Well, it might take a while, but you will be happier if you can do it yourself and not trusting other people anymore.

Remember you dont have to do it all in one day, you can use #83, #80, and #21 or whatever wax you chose on 1/4 of the car each day or something. Or half one weekend, half the next. Better to get good results, dont rush.

                            Good luck,
