  • My first Time

well... (my camera isn't working,so there are no pic's )

So after spending time reading . asking all sort of questions, I bought the following...

    dewalt 443
    #80
    #66
    Scracth X
    High gloss endurance
    Water Magnet
    Terry Towels
    MF towels
    NXT Wash
    W8006
    W9006
    NXT Wax

Since this was going to be my very very first time, using a machine of any sort like the dealt 443, I decided to just try out on my black light pickup, the paint is in pretty decent condition, and the van is kinda new with 27 000km on the odo, I decided to try out a small panel first and decide from there..

Now, this is the process I followed..

    Washed with NXT

Then clayed, using QD as a lubericant, I then used a MF towel to wipe the area clean, the paint felt smooth as glass, also the clay turned kinda light brown so I knew the clay was working

Next I slapped the w8006 to the dewalt, used the speed of 1, took Mike's advise and apply the product in cirular pattern on the pad, then in an "X" pattern on the center.

Then placed the pad against the panel and turn it on, and continued to spread the product in a circular motion. I ovelap each pass by 50 % and ran the polisher for a 3-4 mins in total across the complete panel. I then used a NF towel and wiped off.

I then slapped on the W9006 and did a pass with NXT wax, follwed the same process as above, expect I used a Terry towel to wipe off..

The finished was blinding to the eye in the sun, swirls had just about ALL disapeared, but the are very light scarthes that stayed behind, I I would have thought that the #80, would have removed them?

I then triedwith Scratch X, worked it into a small area, using the applicator, waited for it to dry about 5 mins, and then wiped it out using the Terry towel, but still the scracthes ar there? what am I doing wrong?

Also, what do you guys think about the above process? I think of using #7 as a polish, and then waxing? Also whats the rule with regards to using the same pad for similair products?, another question which is the correct pad to use #7? I was think anout the following combo..

    Wash
    Clay
    #80 (w8006)
    #7 (w8006)
    NXT Wax (w9006)

    Come on guys..

For the most part sounds like you had good results!

You say you set the speed on 1(not totally familiar with the Dewalt DA), is that when you were applying #80? is that a very slow speed?

Also for cleaners, polishes ans cleaner/polishes like like ScratchX, #80, #7 you don't have to let the dry, its better to remove them damp as it makes removal much easier. Now a wax you let dry then remove.

For some tips on ScratchX you might try this post: How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

    ------

    As for this combo:
    Wash
    Clay
    #80 (w8006)
    #7 (w8006)
    NXT Wax (w9006)

Sounds good! I like adding a pure polish to add a little more pop to my paint. In my case I use #81 Hand Polish but #7 is also a pure polish and will give you good results.

Here is a speed/pad chart that might help you out: Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher. Now I am not totally sure if the speed settings cross over to the Dewalt 443 as this was written for the G100/7424/7336. I am sure someone with you machine will chime in, I know several on MOL have one.

    Hope this helps!

Tx for the advise, no:1 is the lowest speed setting, my thinking using the lowest setting was to allow the #80 to be slowly but propely massaged into the paint, and also been my first time.

I will be completing the rest of the car tommorow, and will be sure to try and post pic's....

next question, can I use DC step 2 also a pure polish? can it be used with the Dewalt?

Yes you can use DC#2 with your polisher.
