Hi all, i was over at the autogeek forum and a question had come about regarding wax over a sealant so i thought i would come over here and get your thoughts on the matter. What is the best and ideal wax to put on over a sealant (i use the DC wet-look poymer sealant) and how long do you have to wait before applying the wax

Well, I think there is getting to be some confusion here going between different companies terminology.
Meguiars tends to regard waxes and sealants as pretty much the same thing, which is protectants with sealants being synthetic waxes. And Meguiars recomends 2 coats of wax for even coverage, whether it is 2 coats of #21, 2 coatss of Nxt, or 1 coat of one thing and 1 coat of another.
Other companies give their products different terms, which do not always match Meguiars terms.
In general Meguiars terms, what you are looking to do is put a carnuba wax over a synthetic wax, which many people like to do. So you might use one coat of your Wet Look, then one coat of #26. Or a coat of #21, then #26, etc.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Synthetic Polymer/Sealant vs. Wax
What's the Deal with "Layering"?
Now, with that being said, many people, including myself would mix certain products to obtain a certain look. In the past, Polymers tended to be more reflective and bright where as carnauba based products would add depth, warmth and richness to the paint. Therefore, a combo that I used for many years was Meg's #20 Polymer Sealant topped with #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax.
And just to clarify....#26 is not a pure carnauba, it is a blended wax.
However, with the advancement of technology in the detailing products, these differences in characteristics between "waxes" is not as much as it used to be. For example, Meg's #21 combines the durability of a polymer with the deep richness of a carnauba. Hence, there is no need to top it at all. When I started testing #21, before it made it out in to the public, I was amazed at how well the product combined all of the elements I prefered!
I hope this helps!

I put #16 over #20 on my Emerald Mica (dark metallic green) Miata and love the look.
As for your question "What is the best and ideal wax to put on over a sealant", well, um.......hmmmm...........define "best" and "ideal"You're liable to get as many answers as there are waxes!!

Tim, I've always wondered what are the difference between waxes and sealants. Whenever the question comes up, the moderators seem to point at that thread. But reading it, it seems like something that TOGWT posted, then Mike asking where is your source?? I'm not quite sure quite to take what TOGWT said is actually correct and "Meguiars endorsed" answer. So is it correct?
