  • Its that time again......

Today I went through my products and did a inventory of what I need/want. Since I now have my rockers and fender flares all Rhino Lined I need a dressing for them. Im not sure on what I should use. Attached is a picture. What would you recommend after a good cleaning on the truck for a dressing for that? All I have ever used in the past on my non painted plastic mirror is Tech Protectant. I got some ideas, but need to know the differences in a few products. 1) Gold Class Vinyl/Rubber Protectant 2) Exterior Trim Detailer. I have cloth interior so I really do not like the Tech Protectant on my dash because of the dust settles and looks terrible in no time. I have the Interior Quick Detailer, but Im looking for something low gloss but with UV protectant. What do you guys recommed?

    THANKS!

If you want low gloss, I would look at Hyper-Dressing, or this new Water Based Dressing. Espeacialy for the amount you are going to need.

Will a waterbased dressing last as long as the other type??

        Hey,

So far, the longest lasting exterior dressing from the Detailer Series is the solvent based All Season Dressing. I have had absolutely awesome durability on exterior plastic from it. Just make sure to apply it fairly heavy with a foam applicator, allow ~10 minutes or so, then wipe down with a dedicated MF towel. The look is awesome!! For a lower sheen, make sure to use a couple of MF towels and really wipe it down.

Jumping in here.... Do you ever get streaks after a rain or does it hold up quite well?

            Hi Brandon,

The trick with ASD is that you need to allow it to set up a good 10 minutes and then come back and thoroughly wipe it down with several MF towels (cotton towels do not work as they will lint causing a sticky mess). When wiped down thoroughly, the result is a beautiful, rich sheen!! There may be some streaking if the product is not wiped down well enough. The nice thing about the product, the first time it rains, and *if* there is streaking, it will not streak after that, yet the finish remains looking awesome!

Can honestly say that I have never had such a long lasting product that looks great for a long time!

Don't quote me on this but I suspect the Water Based dressing is Hyper-Dressing with a new name.

I have to agree with Tim here. The ASD Solvent Based Dressing would likely be prefered here.

The Hyper-Dressing will work and you will probably like the look but will not last nearly as long as any of the solvent based dressings. The pic shows an area down low that is going to get nailed with water on a regular basis. Hyper-Dressing will work down low and "I" use it there. "But" I have the time and don't mind redressing my trim once a week or so. If you are not ready to do it as often, I would shy away from HD in this area. Plus, those pics show an area that alreay has an apparant gloss. I suspect one of the Solvent Based Dressings will stick to it better.

The consumer line does have some solvent based dressings but to be honest. It appears that you are going to be working on alot of surface area there so being able to buy in bulk, by the gallon, would be worth looking into. My advice would be to bite the bullet and get a gallon of ASD, Use it there and then you also have a great wheel well dressing on hand as well.

                  Hey Jeff,

As far as I know, they are two different products. And from my testing thus far, I would tend to agree. The Water Based Dressing does not offer the same dilution ratios. Hyper Dressing is a lot thicker and tends to spread a little more easily even at the same dilution ratios. What other differences...I do not know, but I will try and find out.
