Fresh Paint

I just came across this forum and have found it very educational, but I have a question about working on new paint. I'm planning on painting my motorcycle (I have access to a HVLP and a somewhat suitable paint room), but I'm wondering what products I should use to bring out the shine in the paint as well as remove any flaws such as orange peeling and such. Also, how long should I let the paint cure before starting to polish? I'll be using a BC/CC combination. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long you wait will vary. I don;t topuch new paint for 90 days. If I were more experienced, I might do otherwise but for me at this time. I leave it alone.

I have seen posts here by folks who are much more familiar than I am with working new paint and they seem to agree that #80 seems to work well the give it a little polishing and a slight protection while not covering the paint up. You want that paint to be able to breath in order to cure so don't seal it over.

My boss has a Blue 300-C he wanted me to do up like his other car. He ran up against a mailbox just before X-mas and scraped the whole side. Needed body work. He got it out of the shop and it looked OK. He asked me how long before I could work with it. I told him to ask the body shop. He never did so I said 90 days.

Well, he got impatient. Hired the neighborhood teen to give it a wash and wax. Forget to tell me thins until it was to late. After the kid got done he comes to me asking me to fix the damage the kid did to the new paint. I refreshed his memory on my 90 day rule of thumb and said get with me after April 1st. I probably should make him wait longer since they sealed the paint up with wax.

I had asked in the forum what I could do, this was before the kid got to it. All recommendations were to run over it with #80 and leave it alone for now.
