  • Getting ready to detail, need some help

    Hey Guys!

Finally have the money together to buy a PC 7336. I'm not sure what the original box comes with, but I know it has a white pad.

If anyone can tell me what else I will need in order to detail my car to perfection, it would be great! Ie: products, pads, backing plates, etc, etc (with the pads/plates having the correct product #s).

I have a couple of clay bars
    NXT Tech Wax
    Scratch X
    #7 Show car glaze
    Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner

I would prefer to use the PC 7336 to do most, if not all of the work (aside from the claying of course)... Since I tend to get very lazy when it comes to using my hand to do all the hard scratch removing.

It's a black car, about 4 years old, and has a good share of swirls...

If I require to buy any cleaners or scratch removers in order to use them with the PC... please do let me know.

Your help is much, much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Looks like your main concern is just on the paint work aspect at this time.

Ok lets break it down to a 5 Step format and try to focus on the Step by Step appraoch and see how far we get.

    The 5-Step Paint Care Cycle.

    Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

    Step 1 Wash

    Step 2 Clean

    Step 3 Polish

    Step 4 Protect

    Step 5 Maintain

    Step 1.
For the wash, How are you set up for that. I.E. Dual bucket system? What are you plans/products you plan to run with for the wash?

    Step 2.
For the Claying. You will need a lubricant. I wopuld recommend either of the following but I have seen from others where a simple carwash shampoo & water mixture suffices just as well.
    Quik Detailer

Ahhhh, the paint cleaning. Your deep Crystal Cleaner should do fine here. You can use it with the PC and a 8006 and you'll likely be happy unless your finish is in bad shape. But Your post leads me to belive it is OK.

    Step 3
The polishing. It's hard to recommend what is needed here without some pictures from you. #80 tends to be a great "go-to" product. Some will even use it a couple of times before trying to step up to #83. Since this is the first time you are attempting to work this paint job up and you already have issues, Without pics I would bet this product would be a great choice for you. The 8006 pad will work well here for you as well.

    Step 4.
You can use the #7 prior to the NXT TECH Wax. I have applied it with the PC and find it fine. I think I used a 9006 pad last time. Just be cautious about not working the product too long. Do not overwork the product and don;t apply too much. It can be a pain to remove wither you overwork it or overapply it. You wax can be applied with a 9006 pad.

    Step #5
Your choice of lubricant for the claying can also be used for the maintenance portion. The same products apply.

As far as which backing plate will work with the 7336. I'll refrain on answering that as I am unsure and don't wish to tell you the wrong thing.

As the others chime in I am sure you will have more questions so I'll stop here. I just figured I would get the ball rolling for you and start by hitting a couple of the highlights.

      Hey,

Just to add to Jeff's post above....

If you use Meg's Last Touch as a clay lubricant, you will need to dilute it 1:1 with water. Otherwise, it is just too slippery for using claying. But when used as a QD, you want that slippery coating, so use it full strength. In other words, you will need to place some in dediated spray bottles for each task.

For claying, I prefer to use Meg's #34 Final Inspection.

As for the backing plate, use Meguiar's W64DA.

      Cheers!
