  • Mike, Anyone.....

When using #9 for removing swirls with a PC how should you work it, and is it necessary to use polish on a new vehicle?

    Did this today:
    washed: NXT Wash
    Clayed: Mothers
Used #9 and followed up with NXT

Did not think I needed to use polish on a new truck, could be wrong, I still have some swirls.

So is a swirl free finish virtually impossible on a black car?

    Hi Kevin,

I like to work in #9 on the 5 setting with a polishing pad until the product starts to get just a little tacky, or semi-dry before removing it.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a polish on your finish, as a polish will help to enhance the beauty of the paint, as well as making sure the paint keeps vital oils in it.

I have yet to polish a black vehicle myself, but there are some on this forum that have the ability to make black paint look like a mirror!...So, yes, it's not impossible to have a swirl free, or near swirl free finish on black paint.

Here is a pic of a quarter panel in direct sunlight. It is swirl free. It takes practice, the right tools and products and the proper use of the correct products to achieve this.

Throw in a passion for the shine and you can do it to.

Particapating in this forum is one great way tp learn but also keep working on your vehicle, get your hands dirty and soon you will be swirl fre.

                  Wow Joe,

Impeccable work and a super picture!

                  Outstanding!

                  O4KevinJ,

I have a black car as well...and it's taken me a ton of patience and dedication to learn how to keep it clean a free of swirls etc! Just buy the best products and work with the right tools and it can be done!

Do not ever go cheap on your clothes or M/F!

Again...just a ton of patience and you will get the hang of it!

Here is a side picture of my car! (2003 Hyundai Elantra GT) It's a little over a year old and the factory paint is horrably soft and prone to swirls and other horrors...lol

Anyway...I use #9 and NXT with a Porter Cable 7424 and foam polishing pads! I remove the NXT with wonderful and plush M/F towels!

Yes...I still have Orange Peel..that's my next task on hand!

Hang in there friend..you'll get it!
