  • nxt speed detailer

    hi.
    1. how different is nxt speed detailer from nxt spray wax

    2. Can nxt speed detailer be used to clean a car covered with dry dust ? or is it necessary to hose off the dust and then clean with nxt speed detailer ?

    3. which product should i use to remove swirls on the paint without abrading the paint ? basically it should be a chemical cleaner and not an abrasive cleaner

    regards

    1. Big difference between the 2. Speed Detailer is not a wax and it should not be assumed that it offers any protective qualties as compared to a wax. Speed Detailer is to give you a very quick method of cleaning a reasonably clean vehicle without resorting to a full wash.. Speaking for myself, I use Last Touch right now almost daily. I use Meg's Body Duster to knock off the dust and then use the LT to finish up. If the dust is very light, then yes, you can go straight to the Speed Detailer. This is what I used to do. But over time I realized that with my inexperienced eye, I was a very poor judge of how much dust I had. Using Speed Detailer when there is too much dust can cause scratches. Trust me I know this. So that is where experience comes into play. I learned my lessons the hard way. So now I always use the Body Duster first then the Speed Detailer. But I only do this during those periods between rains. If my truck has been driven in the rain, I go for a full wash. Driving behind the vehicle in front of you throwing up the road mist of grit and grim will put stuff on your finish you don't really want to rely on Speed Detailer to pull off.

Hosing off the dust first is fine but not likely always necessary unless you are talking about large amounts of dust. In that case the hose would be a decent alternative.

As far as removing swirl without abrading the paint. I'll defer on commenting on that as my experience level starts dwindling here. But I will say that it is my "understanding" that to remove a swirl, you will have to abrade the paint. I am sure some of the others will chime in here.

Thanks a lot jeff. Yes, in my case, the dust is very light and hence i think it would be un necessary to daily wash the vehicle else it would grdually reduce wax.

In that case i think i should wash weekly and as for daily care, i think i should dust / blow off the dust using a blower and then use speed detailer ?

      thanks once again.

Personnaly I use the following for getting the dust off and it works like a champ. Fits right in my trunk and I don't have to pull out the leaf blower.

        Versa-Angle Body Duster

I do use a leaf blower to dry after a wash though.

As far as which MF I use to apply the Quick Detailer of choice. It depends. If I need a little bit of cleaning power I will go with an Ultimate Wipe. Unfortunately Meguiar's no longer sells these. If the truck is already good and clean and I don't need high cleaning ability, then I'll run with a supreme Shine MF and turn it to a new side about every 2 panels. One SSMF does my whole truck. If I am looking to do up a quicky, say after I have detailed the whole truck and have driven down the road a piece and suspect I might have fooled around and thrown a little tire sling up on the finish. Then I will pull out a Quick Detail Pad and hit the whole truck.

All these are great tools to have in the arsenal and I alwasy keep all of them with me.

I got the Mequiar's duster the other day and I think it is great. I like it better than the California Duster. Of course that could be because it broke on me after several weeks of use. I mean how does a hand break when you are only using it for LIGHT dusting of your car!
