  • Hot Shine Tire Spray - Tarmac Drive :(

    Hi everyone

Just started using the Hot Shine Tyre Spray. Love the results onig my tyres - but I have a tarmac drive and it has created big black marks all over my drive. Does anyone know how to remove these marks from my drive?

Also I note that it says not to get any other this product onto painted or non-painted plastics. Does anyone know what happens if you do?

    Thanks

    Rich

In the future, you might consider driving your car onto some paper like a newspaper or a piece of cardboard before applying the tire coating, or at least placing some paper around the tire before spraying the tire. As for removing, try some laundry detergent or dish washing detergent, scrub the area and then hose off. Other than that we've had people post this problem where they left overspray on their driveway and because the product is formulated to last... (one of the reasons people like it), it does last... and you'll have to allow some time to go by for it to wear away.

Thanks for the advice Mike. Will definately do this next time.

Do you know what happens with this product when it gets onto painted or non-painted plastics (as it says to avoid on the back of the spray)?

        Nothing, just wipe it off.

If later on you get sling from the tire from too much excess product, you might see some staining in the paint but it's not the tire dressing, it's the spent Antiozonant, (the brown rubber or blooming on the outside of the tire), that is causing the staining and the tire dressing just acted as the transfer vehicle or medium to get it from the tire to the paint, so be careful not to leave excess product on the tire.

As for any overspray, just wipe the affected area with a microfiber to remove any excess, if you like you could also apply a paint cleaner, cleaner/polish or cleaner/wax to the affected area to remove any excess completely out of and off of the paint.

You can read this for more information...

Thanks again Mike. I think I do have a couple of staining marks on my paintwork from the tyres - would the paint cleaner remove these.

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray - Tarmac Drive

Hi R1ch, Just did the same thing on my Tarmac Drive today.
I tried the pressure cleaner with car wash on it but still it stays there and looks like !"£$.
Did you manage to clean it up or did it go away after some time ?
I just moved into a new block of Townhouses and everything looks new, except my part of the driveway. lol

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray - Tarmac Drive

              Welcome to MOL.

I have a brick block drive and have 'crescent' shapes in a couple of places where i have used Tyre cleaner.

This issue has been raised many times on here, best bet is to always spray onto an applicator pad (i use a dish wasing sponge) and then apply, that way non gets on the drive. I actually sprayed some on to a paving slab well over a year ago as a test and its still there - but only noticable when it rains.

If your going to try to get it off i would try with 'hot' water and washing up liquid, before it gets time to sink in to far this Megs stuff is made to last

              Best of luck

              Rob

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray - Tarmac Drive

As others have said, prevention is the key. Since you already have some overspray on the driveway you might try using a citrus cleaner. I've used Orange Blast with a stiff brush with some limited success on my own driveway. Of, course in time it will fade all on it's own.

I carry a huge roll (8' x 100') of 6 mil visquene in the truck. I lay some down under the vehicle when I detail at customer locations. This is also very useful when doing engine details. My clients appreciate the fact that I keep their driveway clean.

Thanks for the info, I guess I have learned my lesson well of what not to do.
I will try your suggestions but at the end of the day if it stays on my tyres as well as it looks like staying on my driveway 3 Cheers for Hot Shine Tyre Spray

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray - Tarmac Drive

I have found the easiest way to avoid the marks is to spray the tires on a wet part of your driveway, move the car and hose off the overspray. It seems that if the ground is wet, the cleaner doesn't soak in right away.
