  • Trouble with the girlfriends car

Hey, I was just wondering what to do? I wasn't thinking when detailing my girfriends car. On my car the wax doesn't stain the plastic exterior trim so I didn't give it a second thought and we got wax all over her's. It turns out, of course, that it does stain her trim. Is there a safe/effective way to remove these stains? I've heard APC and the trim dressing work well, but I don't have access to APC here.

Another Question I had, we detailed her car about a month ago, and a few weeks later she had little white dots all over the front of the hood of her car. I was thinking maybe it was overspray, but it is only on the front half of her hood. I tried re-claying the areas, but with no success. Any ideas as to what caused them and how to fix the problem?

You can get the wax of with WD 40.

Are they tiny paint chips that have now absorbed wax or polish? This tends to happen on the front portion of modern sloped hoods.

Sometimes a person doesn't really notice all the little spots until they polish. After a few days of drying time, the polish in those spots will whiten.

Oh, and for the trim...have you tried any clay on it? In a few cases, I've had some success with that.

I'll try claying the trim first then WD 40 if that doesn't work. I don't think that they were chips in the paint because it was perfectly smooth before, and now there are a lot of bumps where the dots are. I say bumps, but I don't really know if they are bumps or if maybe they are chips.

Do you have any kind of magnifying glass or lense to help you get a better view?

The reason I said about the WD 40 is because my brother - in - law had someone that told him about it and he tried it and it worked.

I've used it to remove stubborn tree sap before. A quick spray, let it dwell for 10-20 seconds, then it lifts off.

Since I got two answers I decided to try both, one on each side of the car. The WD 40 worked wonders, but was a little messy. Thats ok though, I wasn't trying to be neat about it, I needed a reason to do a full detail on her car . On the other side of the car, I tried the clay. This took a little more work to get off, but it didn't leave anything to clean up afterwards. That gave me another reason to detail her car, I couldn't QD half of it without doing the other half too, and while I was at it I should go ahead and do it completely right??? Anyway, both ways worked and had good sides and bad to them, the WD 40 was a little easier, but if you aren't careful it can be a bit of a pain to get it all off the paint. Has anyone heard of this happening before, the bottom of her bumper was just plastic, no paint on it at all. It was stained just like the other trim pieces and it too came off with some WD 40. It shines like it has paint on it, but it stains with wax. Oh well, I just wish that there was a way to get rid of the white spots. When I looked closer they did appear to be chips in the paint. . Anyway, thanks again for the great suggestions.

A plain old pink pencil eraser like you had in the first grade works great, I have that black plastic trim all over my truck and its a pain.
I know its not Meguiars but at your Honda Dealer you can pick up a can of spray cleaner polish for around $5, I keep a can in my truck, it will get those spots off too with no greasy residue.
Ive heard Peanut Butter works too but Ive never tried it.
