Glad to hear its working great.
Good point gb... never really thought of it that way but, similar to a water softener for the house taking care of the pipes, I suppose it'd work out very similar...

My water is horrible. I can't sum it up any other way than that... Generally speaking, everyone who has the Ohio River as a source for drinking water has this problem... I could go into all of the geological factors that play in to the water problem but, I'll spare you the hydrogeological bordom. LOL!

...This thing comes packaged in a box that could double as a casket.

Great review! I'm on the prowl for a filteration system...but I think I want a DI (de-ionization) system. I read somewhere that the Spot Free system is actually a water softener and not DI.

You might be interested in this, but he has raised the prices somewhat because he wanted to start selling these to distributors.

Thanks. That was the other system I was looking into...a true DI system. Also, I noticed they sell resin after the original is used. I thought DI systems could be recharged simply by running the resin through salt water?

Not that old...plus, I'd rather resurrect an existing thread than post a new one if I can.

(not to take this thread off topic)
I agree, it's better to bring up an old thread that deals with the same issue than to post a new one. It makes a forum boring to users that check the forums all teh time and have been a member for a long time to see the same topics being brought up. "search" brings up a lot of answers if ya use it. But yeah Meguiar's is all about customer service and whatever's more convenient for us so people post new threads instead of searching so they can get their answers directly.

Also...I own the spot free 2500 water filter/ softener unit and love the thing. It's gonna last a long long time and is simple to recharge. Plus I don't drop hundreds of dollars every few months for new cartridges.
It doesn't deionize the water tho and won't bring the water down to 0 ppm unless you already have good water but it dramatically decreases the hardness of the water.

OK guys, help clear up something for me about the Spot Free unit. Is this is strictly a water softening device? Is it meant just to reduce water spotting?

The reason I ask is because we have soft water coming into the house and If I can get the same results by hooking my hose to the sink in the garage as I could from the Spot Free, I will start doing that.

                    Thanks,
                    Mike

Yes... it is a resin-based softening device.

It is likely that the unit could serve as a polishing step for your water but, like you mentioned, if you can achieve the results from your sink, maybe that's the better option for you...

As an update -- I'm still using and really liking my Spot Free system... it works fantastically well for my really hard water.
