  • rock chips+better car care article

i did a good search on repairing rock chips and well i found an article from bettercarcare http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=27
"The final step is to buff out the repair with a good hand polish. I like to use 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound or Eagle One Scratch Remover (fine or medium grit compounds) followed by Meguiar’s Hand Polish or 3M Perfect-It Swirl Remover. Apply the compound and polish to a clean foam applicator pad, rub into the paint area using a short back and forth motion (not in circles), then buff out with a clean terrycloth towel. Tada! The blemish is gone."

could I use scratchX instead of 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound or Eagle One Scratch Remover? I've never seen either of these in stores i assume it does the same thing

ScratchX contains a diminishing abrasive and is safe for use by hand, I'm not sure this is true for the 3M or Eagle 1 product, if you use either of these products by hand be sure to read the instructions on the label first to make sure the manufacture states they can be safely used by hand.

I have not read the article you referenced but if it includes wet-sanding, as discussed here many times, removing sanding marks out of a factory clear coat by hand can be difficult and even impossible if the paint is very hard. They should come right out of the touch-up paint as it will be very soft comparatively speaking, so proceeds with caution.
