    I'm having trouble getting the final finish that I want on this Caddy.
    Paint is white PPG Deltron 2000 base coat
    Clearcoat: PPG Concept DCU 2002, two wet coats
    Color sanded with 3M, 2000 grit wet paper
    First buffing with Meguiar's Diamond Cut #85 using a W4000 wool pad. This part came out great.
    Next a final buffing with Meguiar's Speed Glaze #80 using a W8000 foam pad. This is where I am not getting good results. The paint doesn't buff up, it stays at a low luster. Any ideas??

    I wonder if you might need to take a step back to #83 first, then follow up with #80.

      I've seen one other person post a similar issue only with a single stage paint.

      Before making any recommendations, can you tell us what other products you have on hand?


      And just to double check, the second step process with the M80 Speed Glaze, that is using a rotary buffer correct?

      It would be interesting to rebuff a panel using the M80 Speed Glaze and a wool finishing pad to see if this combo restored the gloss, then if it did, follow this up with the M80 using a dual action polisher to remove the swirls.

      Another product to try might be the M84 compound Power Cleaner with either a W-7000/7006 foam cutting pad or the W-8000/W-8006 foam polishing pad to see if changing chemical but sticking with foam resulted in a high gloss finish?

      I'm glad things like this are the exception and not the rule...

        I will try to re-buff a panel with M80 and the wool pad and let you know how that comes out.

        Murr1535 suggested using M83 between the M85 and M80. I am prepared to do that if this doesn't work.

          A cutting pad tends to leave some pretty deep swirls, so my suggestion was an effort to remove the variables. Since a wool pad and M85 left a nice looking finish, let's try a wool pad and only change the chemical but try a more gentle wool pad, a finishing pad.

          If this works, then we have a plan to move forward, if it doesn't then we try a different approach.

          Trying M83 in-between M85 and M80 is also a good route to try, again we want to keep our options for application material open until we find out what combination works best.

          In the end, you're goal will be to find a product and pad that works on the dual action polisher to insure a swirls free finish as a beautiful car like a 1956 Cadillac deserves a show car quality finish.

          Now where's the pictures?

            Mike, thanks for the feedback and the input.
            I have been unable to locate a wool finishing pad, so went with an 8000 pad with M83, then followed with M80 and a 9000 polishing pad and the results were great. Thanks for the help.
            PS. I did find that I was using far too much product. When I cut back the process became much easier.
