  • New Car - trying to avoid mistakes with Black Paint?

Hi, I just bought a 2006 Acura TSX with Nighthawk Black Pearl factory paint with clearcoat.

I have only had the car 2 weeks, and I have only hand washed it once so far.

I want to avoid doing anything that may cause swirlmarks or other problems that become obvious on cars with a black finish.

What is the best way to care for the factory Black / Clearcoat paint job?

What is the best product to keep a good coat of wax on the car and avoid swirl marks from waxing it?

Well, the best way to care for black is the same as caring for any other color. Its really all the same, just that black will show the defects easier.

And most of your swirls, that are instilled by hand, will not come from the waxing step, but during the washing step.

On that note, here are a few articles that are pretty much required reading:

As far as a bit of a process to use, you can start off with something like this:

        1. Wash - Use a quality car wash like Gold Class or Nxt, with the 2 bucket method, and a Grit Guard in at least the wash water bucket.

        2. Clay - Clay with Meguiars Quick Clay or Smooth Surface Clay.

        3. Clean - If you have no swirls yet, a mild cleaner like Deep Crytal (DC) #1 will be perfect. If you have swirls, you can use ScratchX for sport cleaning.

        4. Polish - A polish like DC#2, or the Mirror Glaze #7 will be good by hand.

        5. Wax - You can use DC#3, Gold Class, #26, or Nxt wax all with good results.

Be sure to have high quality sponges, towels, applicators, etc on hand.
