  • Have I ruined a pad?

I just finished working on a car that had been repainted and NOT clear coated. The pad I used for the #9 cleaned easily but the white finishing pad used to apply the wax came away nearly black - the car is dark blue - and I cannot get it clean. I have soaked, agaitated with a nylon brush, and it still looks terrible. Do I "deep six" this pad and chalk it up to experience?

Dont worry about it. Its like some products color staining a pad and not being able to get the color all out. If you cleaned it and washed it, it should be fine.

My question is why was the car not Clear Coated? Was it a Single Stage Paint?

Either way, if you've cleaned all that you can, you should be fine. Since you've removed all that you can with chemicals, I doubt you can do much more with using it again and transfering anything. If all else fails, make it your grunt pad and put a bonnet over it for wax removal.
