First Big Job

So I get a phone call from my dad tonight saying he has a big detailing job for me and of course I'm interested. He tells me his crew has 6 trucks that need major cleaning and he wants me to do all 6. He told me I'd get $100 per truck and I can do one truck per weekend. 6 weeks = $600 plus my "full time" job that pays about $300 every two weeks so I'll be making some money for a 16 . I also have another challenge ahead of me.. One that I'm actually scared of... My grandpa owns an old Studebaker and he wants me to clean all the chrome. I don't have a ton of experience cleaning chrome so I was looking to get a little help on that.

For the trucks I plan on doing:
Wash
Clean tires/rims
Glass clean
Clay(maybe)
ColorX
Wax

Do full interior detail as that is going to be the messiest due to the crew jumping in and out.. Any ideas on a good way to clean cloth interior/carpet?

Nice work bagging the clients! Too bad you arent charging more, since the products can get a little high.

For the interior, if its all cloth, you will want to vacuum all cloth surfaces, then spray Heavy Duty Carpet and Interior Cleaner on them.


Agitate with a medium stiff nylon brush, then wipe with a terry cloth towel.

Also, for odors, you can use Odor Eliminator.


After cleaning dirt and dust off the dash, use Meguiar's Natural Shine applied with a clean applicator. It really makes vinyl and black plastic look great. Dont use it on clear stuff though.

mix a bucket of apc & water probably around 10:1

and a spray bottle 4:1

after vacuuming the interior, pre-spray the interior with the spray bottle

using a good stiff nylon hand brush, dip it into the bucket and scrub away

then vacuum out the excess solution using a wet-vac

do one section at a time.

these are work trucks, the above method will clean them up nicely

you dont want to spend alot on supplies for the money your getting

Are you working by hand, or machine?

If you are using the PC, you may prefer a jug of the professional cleaner/wax to using bottles and bottles of ColorX. That would be #66 Quick Detailer. #66 may even be better by hand on a job that large, but not sure.

Diluted APC as was mentioned would also be more economical than bottles of the Heavy Duty Carpet Cleaner and wheel/wheel well cleaner.

Maybe you can get $100 plus chemical costs, could get pricy depending on what wax you use if yo utop the cleaner/waxes.

hi 96 stang.. for the chrome i would wash...then use NeverDULL ..you can get at pepboys in a silver can..its a clothy material, soaked in a chemical, but whatever is in it does a great job..wipe it on , then let dry and take off with a m/f,,after that put on some nxt tech wax and grandpa will be very happy with the outcome.. i use this process on my chrome wheels and they shine like mirrors..
