  • My first wax with a PC! And my frustration.

We'll I just got my PC last Friday, and since I was off of work on Monday, I figured Monday would be a good day to Wax my truck. The previous week, I posted on MOL that I wanted to try #9, #7, #26. It seemed to go over well so I thought I should go with it. I went to my local store to pick up a couple items.

I will tell you that I was a really nervous about using my PC for the first time, on a black truck. I've been a Meg's user for about 6 months, but I have worked by hand using the DC line (DC1,DC2, and GC Wax). I was very happy with the results, my truck's finish looked 100 x's better than 98% of the cars out there, all done by hand. But I knew I could get better results with the PC.

So I started at 9:00 am on Monday. I 1st washed my truck with GC Car wash. Now before I go any further I wanted to take some before and after shots, and I could not find the camera any where. I called my wife and found out she had the camera in her car from the previous week, and she was at work. I debated on scrapping the project, since what's a good wax job with no pictures, right? But I knew the opportunity would never present themselves like they did on this day. The weather was about 70 degrees, my wife was at work, and my kids were at Grandma's. I couldn't pass it up, so I said "Go for it". And I proceeded!

    Following Steps were taken:

    Washed - GC Car Wash
    Clayed - Quick Clay
    Cleaned - #9 Swirl Remover
Polished - #7 Show Car Glaze
Waxed - 2 coats of GC Wax

After all the steps were completed I took a step back to look at my work.
I swear the truck was glowing! I had never seen my truck like this...

So then my wife get's home (it's a little after 5:00pm) so I new there was about 15 minutes of sunlight. I quickly get the camera out of her car, and take some pictures.

After I had taken my first picture, I checked to see how it looked on the screen. I looked good, so I moved back to get a good front shot, and you'll never guess what happens next. The battery died on my camera!

I rushed in to charge it, and wouldn't you know it takes 4 hours to charge. SO I tried numerous times to turn it on after 5 minutes, and no such luck. So I had 1 picture, and that's all I was going to get. I waited about 30 minutes, and it finally charged enough to turn on and snap a few pictures. But by this time the sun was gone. I turned on the low light/night vision on the camera to take a couple shots, but it made them really blurry. But I'll show them to you anyways. I was able to get 2 more pictures before the camera died again.

    Sorry for the blurriness!

Other than the camera thing, I really loved the great look Meg's allowed me to put on my truck!

Even with just those couple shots you can see how much of a gloss and clarity that detail did for your paint!!! Awesome work my friend

First of all, that story sounds so much like one that I can really relate to. I can never wash, clay, polish, and wax my car as much as I'd like to because of my responsibilities to family, church and so on... So on those rare occasions........... when everyone's out of the house except for me and my 4-Runner, I try to take full advantage of the time I've been alloted:-)

Ok, the results were great . I have a couple of questions for you... Was the PC easy to use, and did you know how to switch PADs, or did someone explain that to you before you bought it?
I ask because I've never used the PC, and I've been praying for almost two years for a Meguiar's class to come to my city, so that I can finally learn how the professionals do it... Well my prayers have finally been answered; Mike and company will be in "big" Dallas Texas on Fe. 18 (Needless to say I'm totally stoked about this).

The PC was very easy to use. I found that while I was cleaning I wasn't using enough pressure (afraid of dry buffing), but the more I used it, I played with buffing a little longer/harder pressure. I was able to see when I was about to dry buff and stoped. I had to go back over the first panel cause I wasn't working the cleaner and letting the abbrasive stuff work enough. By the end of the truck I was confident with what I was doing. I bought

I bought the Meg's backing system for my PC, the pads were just velcro'd on. When I used my MF bonnet to remove the wax, I had to change the head, and I used the wrench and instructions that came in the box.

        It was foolproof!

I'm also a newbie to the PC. I've yet to try mine out as I'm still doing all the research needed before I begin! Also, 20 degrees outside makes it hard to wash a car or truck.

anyway, you said you had to change the head for the the use of the MF bonnet? Why did you do this? It was my understanding the MF bonnets can go over the purpleish W7006 pad for product removal?

maybe a seasoned pro could chime in here

            Hey Magic,

I can't see your pictures very well. The glare for the glossy paint is causing the camera to loose focus!

Just Kidding. It looks awesome. Next time recharge the camera prior to the detailing. I always do this, you never know what you can "show off"

Yes you are correct! My local store didn't have the purple'ish pad, so I found a pad (not meg's) that I was able to slip the MF bonnet over. The pad I bought wasn't velcro, which required me to change the head if I wanted to buff with a MF bonnet. It took only about 1 minute to change. It worked great, that is until I can order the right pad from MOL.
