Now what do ya think. Is this a good tool for a beginner?

    Also :
Will i need a backing plate?

What pads will fit on those and what pads do you recommend fot:

    1. Applying
    2. Removing
    3. Polishing/Finishing

Is there any difference when removing a product and polishing?

I'm thing of using #9. What pads do i need to apply and remove?

    Please Help.

The link wouldn't work for me.

What model Makita is the machine you're getting?

Is it a rotary, orbital, or Dual Action machine?
See the big picture, enjoy the details

The BO6040 is a dual-mode polisher/sander. It has dual action orbital and forced rotation orbital modes.

It has a following but I haven’t tried it myself. I believe it comes with a 6” hook&loop backing plate.

It doesn’t use the standard DA plate mounting threads (a very nice thing about the Porter-Cable, too bad it's not available in 230V) so you’re limited to whatever plates Makita sells.

Ok. Thanks . But my question is still unclear. Will the W8006 pad fit on the machine?

The backing plate that comes with it should hold Meguiar’s pads OK but the plate’s hook surface is larger than the pads’ loop area and will overhang the loop onto the foam.

Some have reported that the overhanging plate will cut into the foam when you press down hard enough for serious defect removal, the “cookie cutter effect”. I guess Makita expects you to use pads with full surface loop backing.

I would expect that some well placed tape or a donut shaped bit of felt fabric would prevent the problem.

If you buy this machine let us know how you like it. I'm very intrigued by machines with D/A and forced rotation.
