  • First Full Detail Tomorrow.

If the weather permits and my uncle allows me to use his shop I'm going to give my car its first full detail. Remeber this car has never been takin care of before me so I plan on spending all day on it. The steps I plan on doing are:
Wash with NXT- Clean wheels with Wheel Cleaner and Metal polish- Clean glass with Duo Fiber and NXT Glass cleaner

    Clay
    Dc1 Remove with terry cloth
    M09 Remove with terry cloth
Scratch X whole car Remove with terry cloth
ColorX apply and remove with terry cloth
    Dc2 remove with MF
2 coats of NXT wax remove with MF

I think I might get 2 or 3 more MF for removing DC1 and 09 and ScratchX

Any thoughts remeber the car has bad swirls and some minor oxidiation/scratches.. Thanks guys

That's a lot of steps! Are you doing them by hand or by machine? You've got quite a bit of redundancy. Assuming you are working by hand, I would suggest you use the DC1 first, then only spot apply the ScratchX on your worst areas. Follow with the #9 over the whole car. Bear in mind, that this is a fairly mild approach, even with a machine, so don't even expect full removal of your defects.

At this point, you will have acheived much of the gloss that #7 will give you, so I would consider skipping that, and since you've already polished, using the ColorX, which is a cleaner wax, probably isn't necessary. I guess I'm saying that I don't think you need to use both; use either the #7 or the ColorX and then follow with the NXT.

The difference from where you started should be substantial, however, if you are working by hand, you may want to try a machine, or if you are working by machine, try something with a little more bite, such as #80, #82, or #83, if, as you say, the car has bad swirls.

I'm applying everything by hand. I really want to spend alot of time on it and remove as many swirls as possible. I'm going to invest in a G-100 and a jug of M80 and M21 when I get the money. Right now its just not in the budget. So the new order
      Wash
      Clay
      Dc1
      09
      Spot Scratchx
      ColorX
      2 coats of nxt
      ?

      any other help?

Well, I dont know how bad the car is.. but you could easily just ScratchX the whole car, and skip the milder paint cleaners if you are going to need the agressive stuff.

        Maybe something like:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay
        3. ScratchX
        4. DC#2
        5. 2 Coats of Nxt.

That way, you dont need to rush with the scratchX, and can really spend the time working it in. And kill your arm. ScratchX needs worked in very well to be effective on swirls, but can always be worked in milder on ok areas.

I would do the spot ScratchX before the #9 so you have a uniform appearance before going to wax.

I'm not sure if you'd need to do both DC1 AND ColorX.

I completely agree with Murr1525 and the 5 steps he laid out. Much more efficient with no overlapping of steps. Even with those steps your arms will be killing you.

                Done..

After 5 hours.. 2 donuts and a 24oz bottle of Pepsi, I'm done with my detail. I decided to go
                Wash-Nxt
                Clay-Quik Clay
                ColorX
DC#2-Didn't seem like it did much, think it could have been skipped with ColorX
                Nxt wax..

I decided ColorX because I did a test spot with ScratchX and I didn't get a noticable result.

ColorX is so amazing, easy application, easy wipeoff, enhances color, and leaves car smooth as glass.

There is no big noticable shine or scratches removed but the whole car is as slick as my dad 96 Camaro that gets babied all the time. Thanks for all the help guys, now its time to get my butt to bed.. I'm dead

O and whoever invited MF towels needs to be a king those are just amazing..

Did you really think I'd forget ? I have pictures I just have to wait to get them on a disk as I don't have a digital camera. Give me a week and they'll be here.
