  • PC and Scratch X

hey, the spring is finally starting to creep up on me and my truck hasn't been completely washed in about 2 months. Before the winter i applied a coat of NXT to protect it. i also have a question about claying. is it ok to use the soapy water solution to use as lube for the clay bar? Also i've noticed my truck has minor swirls and i have had scratch x for a while and have yet to try it out. can i use scratch x via pc? what pad? speed? also would it be ok to use scratch x in a little bigger area such as a fender?

    my planned steps

    - wash with #62
    - clay with smooth surface kit (remove old wax)
    - dry with WM
    - Use scratch x via pc (hopefully) (paint cleaner)
    - polish with M07 ( polish)
    - 2 thin coats of M21 as topper

also would color x be better to use VS M07? my truck is outdoors 24/7?

Your planned steps are good, though I am not sure what speed setting you would use on the PC. The #8006 pad would be the one to use.

ColorX is a good product, but if you are going to use 2 coats of #21, then #7 would be better. ColorX, or the other cleaner/waxes, would be for if you are trying to cut back on steps.

          Hey explore_02xlt

Sorry, I did not get your question sooner. I took a break last night and went out with my wife for dinner

Claying can be done using your carwash solution for lube. However, I much prefer using a dedicated lube, like Quik Detailer or #34 Final Inspection.

Meguiar's does not recommend applying ScratchX with the PC as it is a hand only product. With the PC, it can become quite gummy.

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

If you are planning on using the PC, I would suggest Meg's #80 Speed Glaze and a clean W-8006 Polishing pad with the PC set to speed 5.

After the #80, you could apply #7 Show Car Glaze by hand or PC with a W-9006 Finishing Pad. The #7 is a pure polish that will add richness to the paint. It does not have ingredients for cleaning the paint.

          After the #80 + #7 + 2 coats of #21 will look awesome!!!

hey guys it's no big deal that you didn't answer within like 5 minutes like you usually do. i just didn't want the thread to go MIA. In the past i have used 80 and 83 a still had just minor swirls, i just wanted to see if the scratch x would work better.

Typically speaking, if M83 used with a W-8006 foam polishing pad on a dual action polisher on the 5.0 setting, working a small section at a time, (about a foot squared), then it's time to move to the rotary buffer.

Take a moment to read this thread... lots if insight...

You can try the ScratchX because,

but be aware, ScratchX can sometimes be a little gummy to remove if it becomes warmed. Of course you can always mist on some Quik Detailer to help you wipe it off.
