  • Applications of Wax

Hi, first post here so merry xmas to all.

I have browsed through these forums to try and find an answer to my question but can't so here goes:

I have a 2000 Volkswagen with satin silver metallic paint. The paint is in ok condition and I regularly polish with AG resin polish and finish off with Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax (I think thats DC#3). I'm in England and the climate at the moment is pretty cold during the day (around 36 farenheit (1°C) and often wet). I commute to work on a very busy motorway (car picks up dirt FAST).

How often can I wax my car? I read on some websites that certain waxes you can apply as often as you want, where as others you can only apply 5 times per year. Also how long will the wax last (roughly) and should I be using a different meguiars wax such as the NXT stuff?

    Thanks

BTW: I apply my polish and wax by hand with a meguiars high tech applicator pad.

Some prefer to wax once a week or every other week. Others do it once a month, or every couple months. Some wax theirs 2-4 times a year. I think its all up to your paint's condition. After you wash it, if your car's finish is not as smooth as glass, then it's time to repeat the 5-Step process.

During the summer, I followed a routine of waxing once a week to retain that "just waxed look".

      Thanks for the quick reply.

So it doesn't matter how many times I apply the DC#3, i can't damage the paintwork? Cause i know if I polish it over and over its gonna wear down the layer of laquer over the paint.

Correct, you can use the DC#3 as often as you like; it's nonabrasive.

FWIW, IMO you can also use the AG SRP about as often as you like on a 2000 VW. Your paint is hard enough that the SRP (which I've used for many years) is unlikely to take off an appreciable amount of clear. Shouldn't need to use it more than a few times a year though. SRP topped with wax is a good combination.

angyp... Here is a great thread: How much paint are you removing.

Superior Shines techniques were far more agressive than you will get by hand. So no worries with DC#3! Good Luck!
