  • Christmas Gift - Keep it?

    Hello Everyone!

Well this is my first post and I'm just looking for peoples opinion on a product I received as a christmas gift.

Its the Mothers "Wax Attack" - Palm Power Polisher.

    You can see it here:

There are some info and vids on the website if anyone has the time to view them.

I'm new to this so ill just tell it as I see it:
It seems to be a single speed (3,600rpm) orbital that uses foam pads.
Its packaged with some Carnauba Cleaner Wax but says it can also be used with a 3 step system,1. Pre Wax Cleaner, 2. Sealer & Glaze then 3. Brazilian Carnauba Wax.

Im more interested in using it a polisher rather than for applying wax (atm I use Megs Hi-Tech Yellow Wax #26 with elbow grease)

What do people think? Keep it or return it?

    Thanks for the help!
    Aaron

I read through the copy and it looks honest and upfront. It only promises to enable you to apply protection, not remove defects.

Likely, it's not powerful enough to, (key word here is effectively), effectively remove below surface defects.

They are not promising it will remove defects and from my experience with machines like this, it's not going to be strong enough to this type of work.

As far as applying wax however, like any machine it will take the work out of the task and do a better job than the human hand.

Take it for a drive and post back here what you think.

Because you said you'd like to use it as a polisher (I assume you have defects you'd like to remove) I would return it. As Mike said, it does not look like it works fast enough to effectively remove defects. I would take the money I get from returning that and I'd buy a Porter Cable 7424 (or 7336, its the same machine) or a Meguiar's G100 (this is just a re-labeled PC 7424).

I don't think PCs or G100s are available in Australia.... but I agree there's definitely a better tool for the job if you're trying to remove defects.

I wonder if it works better than the usual type of orbital buffer?

          I know it wouldn't replace a G-100, but it's a nice looking kit though.

Haven't seen them around here yet.

Ah, I did not take the time to notice his location. I do believe you are correct in your statement that G100s are not available down under. I also agree that a better defect removing tool must be available.

              Thanks for the reply guys!

I think what I will do is hold onto it while looking at what is on the market here that is similar to the G-100.

The defects I am looking at removing are the swirls (or what ever you call them) in this photo

The sun was a little high when i took this photo so you cant see the marks that well but it look the same as most of the car in these forums.

Also with this product i wasn't too sure about the foam pads, do you use foam pads with the G-100? I just had it 's.in my mind that the pads should have been a wool or micro-fiber product.

Anyway, thanks again for the feed back, ill post back once ive had a look down the local hardware store for other DA's.

Though not a great tool for removing defects, I would keep it. After all, it was a gift, and looks like it might be a nice tool to have around for quick touch-ups and to use in hard-to-reach areas.
