  • Product to remove rust on brake disc hub

A friend took his C5 Corvette to the car wash recently. As 'Vette owners are aware the brake hubs rust when they get wet. The employee at the car wash would not specify what product he used to remove the rust. Only that it was a Meguiar's Professional line product. Basically he sprayed on and wiped it clean. What product in the Meguiar's line does this? Perhaps Detailer line Wheel Brightener? There is no way to be absolutely sure that it was a Megs product only the guy's word.

I would think it is either the Wheel Brightener, or possibly Super Degreaser -- though I think the slightly-acidic WB is the best bet on what he could've been using.

That was my other guess, Super Degreaser or Safe Degreaser. Unfortunately, the wash employee was being kind of a weinie about it & wouldn't show/name what the product was.

        Hi:

If it is actually a Meguiar's product the smell and color will tell you what it is.

        Next time use your nose.

Well, I'll be sure to lend my friend my nose next time he goes to the car wash.

I'd sure keep a close eye on the wash-weinie if he's using something that potent around a nice 'vette

Maybe it'd be worth the hassle to treat/paint the areas in question for a longer-lasting approach. Not that I've ever gotten around to doing it on *my* cars

I wouldn't smell too much of the Wheel Brightner, its acidic, and acid fumes can be somewhat harmful.

If you are talking about the hub where the wheel bolts the the rotor I would paint the area. I sanded off all rust and cleaned the area well and painted it silver. Cleaned up the area nicely.
