  • New paint, very light swirls...

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction with regards to getting rid of some very minor swirls. My car was repainted 3 months ago and I have taken very good care of the paint. I have already waxed it 2 times since then. If I look under certain lighting, I can see some very minor swirls in the paint which I have a feeling were caused by the body shop after they washed it.

I was wondering which of the following products would be safer to use:

    #80 or #9

    Thanks.

Between those two the #9 will be the less aggressive. But the #80 is almost certainly gonna be the product for the job. The #80 oughta work great for this one and no, it won't be too aggressive.

I agree #80 is a great product, use it all the time and wouldn't give it up! Are you going to be doing this b hand, PC or rotary?

I have a Porter Cable 7424 so that is what I will be applying it with. Do you guys think I should use the 8006 or 9006 pad?

The 9006 pad is for finishing. It won't do any work-i.e. remove swirls. Use that for a final application of wax. To remove swirls you will need a yellow pad (8006) on speed 5.

Well that depends on how hard or soft your paint is. On really soft paint or if I am trying to finesse that last little bit of swirl out of a difficult paint, I often use a W-9006 Finishing Pad. However, in the majority of the cases, with a product like #80 Speed Glaze, I would use a W-8006 Polishing Pad.

There are times when you may need the attributes of either pad.
