  • Advice on a deep scratch

Hi, I saw a scratch on my car this morning, which I feel is a key scratch.

Its pretty deep and the area around it is pushed in..

I just wanted to know what you guys think it would cost to get that fixed up?

I think its a little to deep for scratchx, I was going to just cover it up with the paint you get from dealerships, but I want the dent gone too.

    Any advice appreciated.

    here are the pics:

      Hey,

Sorry to see the damage! From the picture, the mark does look like it is down to the primer.

To remove the dent, I would take it to a PDR (Paintless Dent Remover/Repair) shop. Because the dent does not appear in the photo to have any deep creases, the PDR should be able to work the dent back out. Some of these places can do amazing work!

As for the Scratch, if you can feel it with a fingernail, (as it does look to be to the primer) you have two choices: one using touch up and carefully paint the scratch. But to be quite honest, the touched-up area will still show, especially if your paint is metallic. But if the car is a daily driver, the touched-up area may look sufficient in your eyes. The second choice is to have the area repainted.

Please let us know how it turns out!

        Hi, Thanks for the advice!

Since its pretty cold, and will probably snow, I was thinking of waiting until Spring and do what you suggested (touch up + PDR)

Is it safe to leave it like it is during the winter? It is a daily driver. Its a black paint job. Will there be any rust problems?

        Thanks

I would scratchX The area to try and smooth everything out. Next, I would prep the area using the three step Deep Crystal system or the regular five step system. You will then need to keep a good coating of wax on the damaged area. This will protect the scratch from rusting until spring when you can have it worked on by professionals. IMO

PDR for the dent. This website for the scratch:

It won't be perfect. Thats a mighty bad scratch in metallic paint.

              Hmm, I think I will do that(http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=27)
to prevent rust and all that, and while I'm at it, might as well PDR it

I might get it done sooner then.

I will keep you guys posted on the results if I do it soon.
