I think they're all pretty well balanced between being mild enough so that they don't remove sealants and protectants, and strong enough/slick enough that they float away contaminants.
I remember reading somewhere that modern cleaners don't attack dirt chemically, but rather surround contaminants and prevent them from sticking to surfaces, whereupon they can be rinsed away with water. I'm not sure how that addresses your question, but I think it's pretty interesting. I'd imagine that stronger cleaners would surround molecules of protectants and float them away. And different cleaners would be engineered for the types of contaminants they are expected to see.
TomAs the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.
