  • DC #1 or Colorx

I'm almost ready to do the 5 step on my new car. Which cleaner would you guys recommend DC #1 or Colorx? Im going to:

    Wash- GC
    Clay
    Cleaner
Polish either #7 or #81 hand polish
    NXT or #26 or both.

I've been reading non stop for like a week i'm ready to do some work. I did wash it for the first time 2 buckets and GC with Chenille mitt. I don't have the grit guards yet. I didn't see any swirls or scratchs afterwards which was nice. Thanks to you guys.

Is it a new car? Sounds like the paint is in good condition, if so
DC#1 may be all you need. Very light cleaner and works very well.

Are you working on the Fusion? They are a good looking car!

I would stick with DC#1, very good chemical cleaner. Gentle, safe and easy to use. I always keep a bottle handy. ColorX shouldn't be needed on a new car.

As for polish both #7 and #81 are good, I prefer #81, but both work very well.

As for the Lightning, yes its factory paint. Yes it looks good but its a standard Ford paint job with orange peel.

Thanks....Yeah, I'm working on the Fusion...I like it a lot. I will use DC #1 and #7 first. I will try #81 next time. I can get #7 locally not #81....Your truck looks awesome...I worked on one once..Now that is HP...The Fusion has orange peel too...I can live with it if I can make it look like your Ford.

Are you applying all by hand? or PC? or Rotary?

By hand, I don't have a PC (yet)...Should I use something else if doing by hand?

Everything should be ok by hand. Other than actual time to spread products around and spreadability, it is abrasive products that really benefit from a machine use.

Working by hand with any pure polish should be no big deal, and DC#1/ColorX are made for hand use.

gb387, have you applied #81 and #7 by hand, and like #81 better for application and looks? Or is #81 easier for your machine application, and still looks better?

I have not applied #7 to my current vehicle (I have always used #81 or DC polish on my current truck), when I used #7 on my previous vehicle I was left with a greasy feel to it so in all honesty I can not compare the look (#7 vs #81). Maybe I should give #7 another shot on my current truck?? But I didn't care for the greasy feeling I got from #7. All this was prior to MOL so I didn't look closely at the differences as I do now.

I have applied both by hand and PC in the past, in my case #81 gave me the best look (via PC) so I have been sticking with it and that is why I still prefer #81. Not to say #81 IS the best or #7 IS the best, its just my opinion.

Working by hand myself, and with DC#2 going to be empty eventualy, I could see trying out something like a #7, or #81, #5, etc, still by hand. Just wondering what might work better, or if DC#2 is still best by hand.

Looks like I'm gonna do some shopping maybe I'll find some #81 to try out, so I can get started on my first Detail...I did buy the Meguiar spray leather cleaner/conditioner...I really like it...especially the smell.

Deep Crystal #2 does in fact work very well, inexpensive and easy to find.

Do you get a greasy feeling from #7?

I havent used the Pro-Line ones.. I was leaning towards #7, but if you think #81 is much easier to work with by hand...

...it has been awhile since I have used #7 (my old truck) and passed it off soon after using it. With tips on MOL, from frequent users of #7 may be able to achieve better results than I did (from #7) but like said I have had very good luck with #81. Now #81 over DC#2, I get a better looking finish from #81.
