  • Cleaning Duo-Fiber Towels

I must say, I have been pretty impressed with the performance of these towels thus far. I do have a question concerning cleaning them though.

Since the Duo-Fiber glass towels have both cotton and microfiber in its construction, should I be washing them with my terry or my microfiber towels?

I suppose I could just start collecting more towels to make up a load; but has anyone washed their duo-fibers with MF or terry and had it come out ok?

I'll be handwashing the ones I have now, but some input would be greatly appreciated.

Washing them with terry towels will ruin them. Stick to the hand washing.

I wash them with my MF's. I use hot water and some Dawn, and soak them first. Then I proceed to wash them in the washing machine. I'm really not sure if it makes a real difference, but I just got a really nice washer/dryer and wouldn't want to get something in them (Wax, Paint, Brake Dust, or any chemicals from the products I used).

I just bung them in with the rest of my MF's - can't say I've noticed any degredation so far...

I wash mine by hand using hot water and a bit of Woolite. (6:1)

Can't say as they hold up too well though as they are throwing threads and the hems are coming apart but they still work well enough.

I bought two duo fibers this summer. One fell apart the first time I washed it. Meguiar's sent me two new ones. So, now I have three. Two of them leave ridiculous amounts of lint on the glass. So, I no longer use them.

I was doing some internet searching on MicroFiber Technology the other night. I found several, pretty informative websites that stated MFs should not be washed in hot water or dried in the dryer set to hot. Something to the effect that the split microfibers tend to close up when they get hot and then they start to loose their effectiveness. I have since started using cold water and air with mine. Washed my first load today like this. They turned out fine. I think the negative effects of the heat are more cumulative than instantaneous.

DFTowel will likely respond to this. He deals in textiles and has indicated that the heat the we wash a MF towel with is nothing compared to the process they go through before we get them.

I'll look it up later. It's another one of those deals where there is alot of conflicting info out there though. I saw several sites recommendind no heat used and several recommending to use High heat. So it appears questionable. I should have time at work tonight to search them back up and post a few links or quotes.

I was hoping to find something to give me some assuredness that I was caring for them properly. Of course with just about anything on the net. The more you search the more conflicting info you will find.
