  • tips using quick detailer(M66)+rotary????

    hi everyone:

has anybody used quick detailer (M66), or any kind of wax with a rotary buffer? if so, what tips could you give me in order to make the product work and not remove the wax at the same time?

    thanks

Usually on the front of the bottle it will show you what pad to use. If you don't have the bottle it's a Meg's yellow pad and that is their polishing pad. Remember 66 is a cleaner wax with a number 4 cut so it makes sense to use that pad. This will clean off oxidation on the finish. If you finish is not that bad you could try a finishing pad it can't hurt. Otherwise keep your pad flat on the paint and keep it moving. And make sure the product that you use with the rotary is always wet. Put the product on by hand don't apply with a rotary. Sometimes I'll use a little QD on the surface to keep it a little wet to help pick up the product. I also belive that it aids in shine also. After your done using a cleaner wax you should use a wax over it for more protection.

If I'm correct, I have read that it is not recommended to apply a wax using a rotary buffer. Instead, use a dual action polisher or apply it by hand.

True you can take it off with a rotary but you can't apply it.

Are you trying to do #66 as a one step product? Or are you using it in conjunction with another product? I've often seen it used as partnered with M83, so you would do 83 by rotary, and 66 with a DA machine. That would be my recommendation, just use the DA at full speed on a yellow pad.

first of all i'd like to say that i'm not new, but haven't been back for a long time, and needed to get a new username.

In regards to #66 - I use it with a rotar quite frequently. It works well for me. I use 3m Perfect-it pads. Yes I apply it with the rotary.
It seems to cut well and is my one step product.

here are some pics of an application of 66 w/ rotary and the results of the cutting power after working one application.

Actually it's the other way around. It's just fine to apply/work #66 by rotary and a polishing pad. No product should be removed with a rotary however.

I also use #66 with a rotary, I just think it needs to have a LSP applied over it for longer protection...

                  Hey,

                  Just to chime in here....

Meguiar's #66 Quick Detailer is an excellent Cleaner Wax is formulated for high-production reconditioning. It is designed for Rotary, DA, Orbital or Hand Application. Some LSP's are designed for rotary application while others are not; the application method is usually product specific.

I have used a lot of the #66 and find that it tends to work best with the rotary. Which ever application method you use, you need to work the product in thoroughly. I then allow it to dry/set-up, performing the swipe test before removal with a MF Towel. At this point, that is as far as you need to go as it is a good quality wax. But, I tend to top it with either #20 or #21 for that little extra.
