  • Motorcraft products???????

Well my dad got his new truck in yesterday it a ford 250 lariat totally loaded. But he was telling me that the leather was clear coated which I already new from this forum. The sales guy said not to use any petroleum based on it. Are any meguiars leather products contain a petroleum base? He said to use the motorcraft brand leather cleaner/conditioner. I was curious if anyone knows who makes the motorcraft brand of cleaners as I am sure meguiars makes a much better quality product. My dad said for the first time he was going to try their stuff but that means going all the way back to our ford dealer. I am trying to figure out who makes it? Any help would be great. Thanks. Greg,

I currently have gold class spray cleaner/conditioner. I use everytime I wash my car which is also a ford lol.

and I have the two step gold class aloe cleaner conditoner. which I do every so often usually when I wax.

        As a side note,
I like to use Motorcraft parts over the other brands out there (i.e. NAPA, Checker). But stay away from Motorcraft oil. Tons of sludge is what I got from using it for about 80,000 miles in a 302.
I went back to using valvoline, and pulled the valve covers off 100,000 after my rebuild, and there was almost no sludge at all...

I don't know who manufactures Ford's car care products maybe someone else knows?

As for using petroleum distillates in a leather formula, or are any of our leather products using petroleum distillates as a base, I don't know off hand but I do know this...

We don't share the ingredients we use in our formulas and I'm not supposed to discuss chemical make-up for our formulations on this forum but instead the performance results of our formulas.

Sometimes you just have to put your trust in the name on the label and have confidence that whatever is inside the bottle or can is there for a reason.

When it comes to Meguiar's products, any ingredient used in a formula, be it a wax, a wash or a leather treatment, is in there for one of two reason, and sometimes both...
          • 1) The ingredient benefits the surface it's being applied to
            2) The ingredient benefits the application and/or removal process

Either/or... both are a benefit to the end user.

If your dad wants to go with Motorcraft products, I would expect these products to perform as they state they will on the label. If for any reason he's not happy with the results he's getting, then perhaps you can share with him a product like this,

          Gold Class Rich Leather Spray

It's what I use to clean, condition and protect the leather in our Pilot and it's always worked very well for me.
