  • Maint Perscription for these wheels and...

Hello everyone have a couple of questions

    1. The picture below is the wheel on my Lexus. I have been washing with the vehicle weekly. Is there a polish wax proceedure for the wheel? I am not sure what "type" of wheel (obviosuly aluminum) this is... and what is the correct and recommended proceedure for caring for them.

    2. Between the front and rear window there is (generically) a black part which appears to be painted black and should be maintained same as the other paint on the car do the fine folks on this board agree?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

For the Wheels.... They look like painted wheels. Here is a post I did sometime ago: Wheels ~ the extra step.... update 5/10/05. You don't have to remove the wheels or even use clay as I did but I treat my painted wheels just as I treat my vehicles paint. I have had very good luck with this procedure. If you don't already have the a Safety Tip wheel Spoke Brush it is a very useful tool in keeping the inside of your wheels clean.

To maintain the look I just use my car wash solution (Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner) and an old wash mitt. Once they are dry I follow up with a 100% cotton terry towel and a Quick Detailer to shine them up. I don't use wheel cleaners, its not that they don't work I just prefer to wash with soap and water. After you have cleaned the wheels its a good idea to change the water/soap (it gets very dirty) then continue with the rest of the vehicle.

Meguiars has some newly package wheel cleaners coming out in 2006 that may be of some help.

As for the black between your windows, I would treat them as a painted surface. Some cars they are painted some use a black plastic that looks painted.

thank you for the reply... I clean the same as you... GC with the Saftey Tip Wheel Spoke brush (fabulous tool) and my older wash mitt.... I find the GC does a great job of removing all of the junk (I wash every week). Thanks for the link I appreciate it.

      Heres to spotless, swirless cars!!
