  • orbitial buffer

I have an old orbitial buffer(1979-1980 black & decker 8") wanted to know if I can use same techniques as with a PC I would love to order one but I just can't afford it right now, I cleaned and waxed my car last week during turkey vacation and when I finished the car it was not as smooth as 2 weeks prior when I applied cleaner wax by hand do I do something wrong as far as products or application techneique?
    steps
    wash- nxt car wash
    clayed entire car
DC#1 paint cleaner applied with polisher(terry cloth bonnet)
removed cleaner terry cloth bonnet 1st but would not come off car so had to hit it with terry towel and QD
gold class clear coat wax appled with polisher(terry cloth bonnet)
    remove wax with polisher(microfiber-craftsman though
next morning hand polisher with ultimate wipe mf
any suggestion would be much appreciated I probably try again this weekend and if no better results then go back to applying by hand

Problem is, those buffers really don't have any power (torque) to them and they are only marginally better than hand application. The upside to the machine is that A) It saves wear & tear on your hands and B) it is useful for the even application of LSPs

Your best bet with this machine is to use something like Color-X. It's combination of abrasive and chemical cleaners will help you get the most mileage from the orbital.

Thanks, Don for the advice I will try to pick up some colorx...anyone been able to find this product at the autoparts stores? also my paint color is white and I can't seem to get the paint to reflect clearly it is still kind of dull even after the buffer what would you guys suggest as a topper? I still have a little cleaner wax and plenty of gold class clear coat wax; I have been wanting to try nxt tech wax but once again my wallet doesn't match my enthusiasim. but if anyone thinks it has better reflective quality please let me know and I will have to get some and miss a meal or something

Color-X is available at almost every auto parts store you could think of. There's nothing wrong with the GC...so there's no need to go out and spend money if you don't need to. Once you're out of GC, or get some extra cash, then pick up a bottle (or tin) of NXT. Until then, just run with what you have.
