  • Need help with car washing (the window part)

    Hi people!
I was searching around MO to see if I can find any posts regarding window cleaning when you wash a car. No posts yet (hopefully), so here goes...
How exactly do you clean the windows during a car washing session? Do you use the car soap? Or do you do it with a separate soap/glass cleaning product?
And when exactly should you do this? Is it after the car's body is clean?

Here's the thing: in Jakarta, the sun rises quite early, and when it's up, the temperature tends to get hot quickly. I think the water I use for washing is 'hard', thus waterspots can happen really quick. The combination of hot temperature and hard water is a real pain, especially on the windows. Oh, evening washes is quite difficult too, since I got no garage & not enough lighting

    Looking forward to your answers/experiences!

Wash the exterior windows along with the rest of the vehicle, using the wash soap. Be sure to do this in the shade.

After you have rinsed and dried the vehicle, then remove any spots on the windows with glass cleaner and 2 towels per panel.

The reason for two: use the first one to wipe the sprayed on glass cleaner and the second one to wipe the remaining residue for a streak-free finish. Repeat this process with the remaining glass panels, using the same 2-towel method.

As the "first" towel becomes more saturated, replace it with the "second" drier towel and get a new one to do your final dry wipe.
See the big picture, enjoy the details

I use clay on my windows from time to time. I got to highschool where people decide to wreak havoc and write on windows and such with chalk, deodrant, etc, waterproof stuff.

Claying really help losen a lot of the contaminates, if not complete remove them. Glass cleaner with two MF cloths wont leave you unhappy.

Claying windows is a good idea, and if you really have bonded gunk on an old car, #4 Compound can be used.

After washing, I use the Nxt Glass Cleaner. I use to be quite paranoid about every last little streak left behind, but I have found that following up with Rain-X removes those streaks (at least on the outside) pretty well anyway.

Also, applying glass cleaners in the least damp conditions possible also seems to help.

Thank you all for the replies! Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply earlier - work deadlines are closing in, and I want to get rid of them all to have a good weekend... so I can wash and clean my car!

Anyways, I clayed my windows a while ago - got rid most of the water spots... but probably need to do it again to get the rest out. Again, thanks a lot, and definitely will do the 2 towel method!
