  • Hot Shine - Not as good as it claims??

I'm not sure if you guys have any bad experience with Hot Shine but I don't find it lasting at all.

    This is my experience...

Last weekend, I cleaned up my tyres with APC and gave it a good scrub - loosening & cleaning off all the dirt & grime.
Applied Hot Shine with a foam pad. Looks really wet and slick (my personal preference) Thought I hit jackpot finally with this product.

Let it dry overnight and took my car our for a drive. Then the unexpected happened... dark clouds and a heavy downpour came. Noticed that my tyres were not wet and slick anymore but still a bit glossy tho.

Following day, another downpour. This time my tyres were totally back the the state before I applied Hot Shine. Seems to me that all that rain has washed off the Hot Shine.

I would understand if it's a week of rain but 2 days?? Personally I expected it to last at least a week.

Did I not clean my tyres enough to ensure the product bond with my tyres or this is just normal?

Its pretty normal for any tire dressing to lose its gloss after raining/washes. I find that endurance keeps its gloss the longest overall because it is a gel. I am comparing this to NXT insane shine, which I think is also a fantastic product, but endurance beats it as far as how long it lasts.

Still, using these products will keep those tires black!

In that case I'll probably switch to Endurance or something else that is gel based in the future.

Just that all the Meguair's products that I have use have impressed me again and again with their durability and results. Hence I assumed that Hot Shine would be a very different tyre dressing compared to the rest in the market...

I have found Endurance holds up best for me as well.

Perhaps try applying a second application of the Hot Shine and perhaps if a little more time can go by before the tire are exposed to a heavy down pour...

Their are ingredients that have to cure in this formula and it could be that the product had not fully set-up before being agitated by driving in a heavy down pour. I know I've had very good luck with the Hot Shine product on our Pilot as I like to use this product because of the grooves through the sidewall that the aerosol lends itself very well to penetrating into these areas.

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a 2 layer treatment this weekend and see how it holds up.

By the way, how long is the cure time for Hot Shine? I figured that an overnight would allow it to cure & bond nicely with my tyres.

for the GC Endurance tire gel, is the applicator a pad?
I too use Hot Shine and maybe I should try a second coat to give it that longer last.
but I like to compare the Endurance and see which I like.
what about the NXT insane shine?
is that comparable to Hot Shine or Endurance?

Endurance lasts the longest, but it does build on the surface so IMO you need to actually clean your tyres more often. I like hot shine as it's more liquid to use - I paint it on with a brush and let it dry. OK so the gloss doesn't last the longest but I find it does keep tyres black for a decent amount of time.

I've also started using #38 on client's cars and whilst this doesn't give a high gloss look, it does last forever and a day.

My typical tire routine is to scrub with APC and then apply Hot Shine with a foam applicator. I let it sit while I clean everything up and put all the buckets and stuff away and then wipe off any excess with an old terrycloth towel. I've found this will keep the tires looking good for up to two weeks. I also like the flat black look, not the glossy look for my tires.

I have no experience with Endurance because I haven't tried it, I'm too happy with Hot Shine!
