  • What to use

I just purchased a 04 Dark Shadow Grey Metallic Ford Truck. I got this truck 3 weeks ago and so far I have clayed and used a swirl remover and the paint is in great shape now. No swirls or anything. I have in the past jumped from brand to brand of wax and this time I think I am gonna stick to one product line.

I have chosed Meguiars after alot of research and reading other forums.

Now I am wandering what can I put on it to add some depth/gloss/wet look and get decent protection and longevity from.

Also for polishes I have Menzerna IP and FP and was wandering what in the Meguiars line would be a replacement for these products when there empty?

Hey GreyWolf and to Meguiar's Online!

I would strongly suggest that you use 2 coats of Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax. Apply it with a foam applicator and remove with a quality microfiber towel. If you want some added "pop", apply and remove some Meguiar's #81 Hand Polish before the NXT! You will LOVE the look!

    Cheers!

I have the same color 2002 Harley Truck and I agree with the 2 coats of NXT. I did go over the truck with the clay bar first, then used Show Car Glaze (I love this product), then the NXT. Man, the clarity and shine is amazing. I would highly recommend that you purchase the Porter Cable Dual Action. With it I can wax/glaze the truck in less than 2 hours (all three steps total).

        2hotford,

Doesnt NXT have cleaners in it that would remove the #81?

Also what about topping the NXT with #16 or #26 or #20?

        Or what about:
        #81, #20, NXTx2,#16?

I think there may be bonding issues with trying to put #20 and NXT on the same vehicle

            Hey GreyWolf,

The are some very specialized cleaners in NXT. They could remove "some" of the #81 Hand Polish but I highly doubt very much of it. I have been using this combo for a while now and really love the look!

As I have mentioned in many posts here and on Show Car Garage, I have been using the #20/26 combo for YEARS! I wanted the protection and reflectivity of the polymer and the depth from the carnauba blend. But with the NXT, I have found that it provides the best of both worlds; I get the protection, refectivity and depth all in one product! There is nothing wrong with topping it, and see if you prefer that look.

The combo of #81, #20, NXT x2, #16 may indeed give a beautiful finish. Before NXT, I used to use that very combo. Give it a try and report back. Also, take some before and after pics!

As for bonding issues, again, I doubt it. Most of Meguiar's products work together in a system approach. As such, I would not worry about doing the #20 topped with NXT. In fact, I have tried this very combo and REALLY liked the result!!

                Hey,

The only wait times that I am cognitive of are the ones surrounding the Last Step Products. For example, NXT needs to be applied and then wait 10-15 minutes for removal. I then like to wait overnight before touching it with anything else including QD's or even water. The same goes for Meguiar's #20 Polymer Sealant.

The best advice is to follow the label instructions on each product as the chemists at Meguiar's have spent considerable time evaluating the best application/removal methods.

would all these products be applied using a 9006 finishing pad on the DA? :-)

also, what do you do about dust or other things that would get on your car while waiting for your second coat of NXT or waiting between #20 and your 1st NXT...

Can you just hit it with a Cal Duster, or do you rewash your car at that point?

                  Thanks, sorry for being new...

                    Hey,

Don't worry about being new, that is how we all learn--by asking questions!

Yes, I would use a W-9006 Finishing pad to apply the NXT or #20. As for the dust, if the car is parked outside, you may have to wash it again before the second coat. If the car is parked in a garage, then you could lightly wipe off the dust with the Cali Duster and then apply the second coat.

                    Cheers!

Yeah I too would suggest the 81,NXTx2,16 combo. I am currently using that one myself and like it quite a bit.

Do you think adding 2 layers of #20 or MPPP before the NXT would do anything? Add to the longevity?
