  • New to polishing - Wetlook Polymer Sealant good enough???

i'm new to detailing cars, and i just got myself a radom orbital sander to apply polish (i'll be using some megs polishing pads of course)

anywayz, i have an unopened bottle of Meg's Wetlook Polymer Sealant

Is this stuff good enough for polishing my car, or should i get some Deep Crystal Polish?

    thanks

Well, wetlook polymer sealant is a sealant. If you want to polish your car, then you have to get a polish. Deep crystal polish is a pure polish without abrasives. Makes the paint very nice and deep looking. For swirl removal, you might want something abrasive.

Be sure to read this about the 5-step system. For best results, each step is important.

      Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

      Step 1 Wash

      Step 2 Clean

      Step 3 Polish

      Step 4 Protect

      Step 5 Maintain

The sealent you have is only going to count for the protection step.

        Hi m0nk3y

        Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Both our other members made great points, first read The 5-Step Paint Care Cycle and then after washing your car Evaluate the condition of your car's finish. The results from your evaluation will help you to choose the correct products to restore and maintain your car's finish.

If you have swirls, scratches or oxidation, etc., then you'll want to either use a paint cleaner or a cleaner/wax depending on how many steps you want to do.

You should also consider claying your car's finish is this car is a daily driver and parked outside some or all of the time.

the car is a daily car, and its parked outside everyday, underneath a car port overnite - 6yr old car

each week i give it a wash, and i'm planning to do this soon:

          wash, clay, rinse, polish, wax

already have the megs claying system ready with me

the condition of the paint is pretty good, no real swirls or anything as far as i can see, but there is of course all the bumps etc that claying will get rid off

Since your car is a daily driver, you will actualy get better results adding cleaner to your routine.

With it being a daily driver, and you may want to do the routine more often when you get good at it, I would very highly recomend using ColorX if you can get it. It is an excellent product for daily drivers, and followed up with a waxing step looks fantastic. Your routine would look like:

            1. Wash
            2. Clay as needed
            3. ColorX
            4. Wax with your Wet Look, or I use Nxt.
