  • Which is more economical viable?

I know this thread might sound silly but for a single car detailer (me), would
it be more viable to buy from a shopping complex rather than to go to a
distributor? I normally only want one product of a same kind with the exception of towels and applicators.

    Thanks.
    Cheers,

Well for me I like to shop and compare the prices between retailers and the meguiars site, but if price isnt a concern to you I would buy straight from meguiars site, because they have every product, unlike some retailers that carry only certain meguiars products

I agree here. When I first got started, I had 4-5 different local retail stores close by that I would frequent. Most carried a similar selection of products, some more some less. Over time, I realized it was a pain trying to keep track of who had what. Then when I would go to get it. They were sometimes sold out, discontinued it, or more recently had taken it off the shlef to make room for winter products.

Is it more economically viable to buy through a retail store? Well, probably, if price is your only concern.

For me, price is a concern but not the only one. I honestly got tired of going from place to place to see who had what. So I decided to find a place online to do one stop shopping. Meguiar's may not always be the cheapest place to buy direct from but when you do by from them, that slight amount you "might" be paying over the retail level prices are going a long way toward things like supporting this website and the free Clinics offered by Meguiar's. Now granted, I am sure some of the money spent to buy the retail products is likley supporting these causes as well. But, for me, I figure if my money is going to Meguiar's directly, they are getting a larger piece of the pie and can do more with it.

I still buy retail every now and again. There is always something I need that I had less than I thought I actually had.

I have a Meguiar's distributor that I use, however I also pick up some products locally too.

Here's the link to the Meguiars' dealer locator page. Just type in your zip code and find your nearest dealer for:

        *Meguiar's Consumer Products
        *Meguiar's Professional Products
        *Meguiar's Marine Products

koklead, you mentioned in an earlier thread that you're outside the US (until you said that I thought you were in Illinois ). I think it will really depend on your local suppliers, which products they get and how they set their prices.

I usually say it's best to find one or two suppliers that give great service and fair (if not the lowest) prices. But if products are hard to find and the prices are very high you might do better to hunt around and get them where you can. I hope that's not the case because that takes a lot of time and work (if you're doing this for a living you'd be losing money because you're wasting time shopping when you should be working on customers' cars).
