Experimenting (again) NXT Polysh

After using NXT All Metal Polysh on my rims and seeing just how well and how long it repels water (even after being exposed to some heavy-duty degreasers/wheel cleaners) I decided to try it on my windows (exterior) as a heavy-duty cleaner and protectant against dirt, bugs and maybe even snow and ice if the weather ever turns.

It went on fairly well with a sponge applicator and buffed off cleanly with a folded MF cloth. There was no streaking or smearing and the glass is like crystal.

Hopefully I'll have something to report soon.

Thinking outside of the box...hope it works out...However, I waxed my windows with NXT Tech Wax. I had great results, the water beads just like it does on paint, however applying the wax on the window may smear a little bit and remember to apply a thin coat.

Sometimes I will apply a very thin coat of carnuba wax to the glass, and let it dry (throughly dry) then remove it, the bugs just slide off...

Intrested to see how the metal polish works too

Just out of curiosity. Did you have any water spots on the windows prior to the application? And if so, did you notice the product having made any impact on them?

No water spots, but the glass did turn out exceptionally clear.

Cool Beans. I probably would not go this route routinely but it might be good to know if I am working up a vehicle for the first time and the windshield has alot of spotting issues.

I have had some friends over and There have been a couple I have had to let go as "good enough" because I could not get the 6-7 year old spotting off. I can usually reduce it but not get rid of it.

I have tried various mixtures of IA, Distiled Water, White Vinegar and a tad of dawn on a couple of these. It did help but it did not get rid of it. I may have to break down and get one of the Glass Polishing kits I have seen the others refer to.

I got the idea after polishing a miniature shield with the NXT Polysh. There were a ton of creases and areas where I couldn't get the residue out, so I used a toothbrush and a little DAWN. Even after an intense scrubbing, the rinse water still would not stick to the shield. Any remaining droplets were tightly beaded and ran off as soon as there was the slightest tilt.

Somewhere here (I get lost easy) Mike posted about spots, glass, rotary and #4 (I think). Sounded like more of a one step process with awesome results.

hey don -- i like to hear more about your experiment with nxt all metal polysh as a windshield/window cleaner -- but i got to be honest -- i've gotta try this for myself -- it's a holiday weekend and i have lots of time to do whatever -- wish me luck -- btw -- besides nxt carwash and nxt glass cleaner i have been following up with a coat of nxt liquid then a coat of #21 on my windshield and my back window -- i must say when driving in the rain yesterday the water repelling off my windshield kindof look like -- umm -- STARWARSLIGHTSPEED -- please report back soon --

I too would be interested in this my moms car has horrible spotting on the window it is so bad at night in the rain its almost impossible to drive in a semi hard rain. thanks Greg.

Update #1

The NXT on glass passed the first test yesterday morning on the drive into work. We all know that night time driving in traffic & under the lights is the one time where any and every smear and missed spot will be noticed, there were none. The glass was as crystal clear as it appeared when I applied it, no matter what angle the light came into the car.

There was a light mix of rain/sleet, not near enough to really test the water repellancy, but just enough to show that there is at least a favorable resemblance to Rain-X, I didn't have to switch on the wipers once the entire (+/- 50 mile) trip. On the return trip home, I saw the amount of dirt/road grime that had stuck to the windows was minimal, and a non-enthusiast would have still considered the glass to be perfectly clean. It appeared almost like an extremely light tint instead of dirt on the glass.

Update #2

Our holiday weekend blizzard has begun, and there was plenty of salt and slush, snow and ice...not to mention the amount of people trying to remember that ice is slippery

To begin with the windows cleared effortlessly, even though it was covered with ice and snow (windshield wipers and rolling the side windows down cleared the glass).

The side windows remained pretty clean despite the amount of salt/slush spray landing on them.

For the most part, only intermittent use of the wipers was needed and each pass of the blades left the glass clear and streak-free. The wipers did chatter a bit, but I think it's because they're getting old and need replaced. When the wipers did miss some water because of wind or chatter, the water started to run off in a sheet in the direction of the wind, only to be completely cleared by the next pass.

While not as effective as Rain-X in the heavy stuff, when a car or truck would splash my windows with a large amount of slush, it would still clear more than enough to prevent my vision from being obstructed before I could reach for the wiper switch.

So far, it seems to have been a worthwhile experiment.

have you concluded that the NXT all metal polysh worked well, or was it the #21?? or both?? What results did you get with just the polysh??
