Well, my wife and I spent all of last weekend working on detailing our cars. We decided to take the detailing plunge after her car (blue late model Accord) got covered covered with fine scratches. A repair shop was fixing a large door ding and washed with a seriously dirty wash mitt. Even the taillights have the fine hairlines. After we brought it back, they "fixed" it but their fix is now gone after 6 months and a few car washes.
After reading here for a few weeks, we decided to invest a little instead of paying someone to fix it. So we started out with a PC, Quick Clay, #80, #5, NXT Tech wax, foam pads, and a handful of MFs.
We did a few passes with the #80 and the scratches are better but not gone. So we stopped working on the Accord and did my WRX with clay, #80, and the NXT wax and it now looks great. Very happy, even got rid of a few door ding type smudges. Really impressed by the clay.
Now, after all that rambling, on to the question....
The plan is to rid the Accord of scratches this weekend with newly acquired #83. However, we found some strange defects in the paint on the RH rear fender. (See pic links below) These zigzag down and rearward from the corner of the rear seat window to the bumper. It doesn't stop until it meets the bumper just behind the wheel well. She thinks that the polishing may have brought this out because she has never seen this before. Believe when I say that she is a detail oriented person... Does anyone recognize this type of defect?

Three other questions while I have your attention:
1) I've read Mike Phillips good thread on water spots. She has some that are type 2. Do these usually come out with #83? They diminshed a little with the #80. Or do they usually go past the clear?
2) Similar to #1 above but bird drop etchings. She has about 4 that look like crackle paint. Pretty much stuck with these right?
3) Some searches seemed to recommend using PlastX but can I use the #83, #80, or #5 on the taillights?
