  • Low Quality MG item

Just wondering if I'm right to say that the MG Bug & Tar Remover is not as useful as its advertised?

Sorry to hurt MG fans but i found this item rather lacking in its ability to remove stains (bugs or otherwise) from the paintwork.

Anyone with similar / opposite feelings?

    Thanks.
    Cheers,

I have found it to be a so/so product... I use it seems a couple applications are needed (as I think with most bug and tar removers). It appears to be a gentle product and that is good. Just make sure you reapply a wax after its use.

I like the GC tarbug remover !! I tried Turtle Wax brand, and many others without luck. I have scratches on my hood and on my windshield from cheap stuff. I bought a GC Bug & Tar remover single wipe one day, and I was hooked!! It is a gentle cleaner, with plenty of lube. You have to let it work in first (soak for a few minutes).

Also if you remove bugs BEFORE they bake on, its way easier.

Were you using the single wipes, or the spray size container? did you shake well before using? (I always forget that step)

        Hannibal,

Yes I did the steps your recommended. It really takes quite some rubbing only will the stain come out. Perhaps its non abrasive hence the need to rub, but I'm just afraid that the rubbing will scratch the paint.

        I'm using the spray type.

The GC Bug and Tar Remover is a good product and works well. You have to understand if you leave certain bug splatter on the paint for a period of time it will etch the paint. If the paint is etched, no bug and tar remover will remove the damage. GC Bug and Tar Remover is not a corrective product. It is designed to remove bugs and tar with less work. If the paint is "stained", the bug splatter has likely etched the paint. The product works well for what it was designed to perform.

            Hi Koklead

Try soaking a MF Towel in the Bug and Tar remover and holding it against the bugs for a minute or so (without rubbing) then wipe in 1 motion. This worked for me but i had no luck just spraying and wiping immediatley.

            Good luck with it.

I have found this method seems to work best for me.
