  • Quik Detailer and NXT Gen Speed Detailer...

Been checking some posts around th forum but can't seem to get real clarification on the exact way to use Quik Detailer and NXT Gen Speed Detailer... (I assume they're the same type of product)

If I wash and detail my car, drive around for a couple of days collecting a little dust, water splashes, etc. can I simply use either of these products with, say, the MF QD pad to get that layer of dust off – no water or anything? Or maybe use the Versa-angle duster first, then QD?

Personnaly I have gotten into the following habit.:
Let's say I have washed. The next day I would use my Versa-Angle-Body-Duster and get the loose dust off then hit it with my QD product of choice by using with a Microfiber Quik Detail Pad. If I do this on a daily basis it does the trick. "BUT" If it has rained and/or has dewed heavily, I find the Duster sometimes does not break loose the stuff that the extra moisture has adhered to the finish. In this case I would hold on QDing until I can wash again. I found this works well for me because if I QDed after the finish had been rained on or a heavy dew had fallen, then the duster would miss something and the QD pad would grab it and I risked the possibility of installing a minor scratch or 2. My method, as described, seems to minimize this for me. I would guess as long if you did want to do a quickie after the finish had been rained/dewed on, you could rinse well with water, then blow dry with a leaf blower then proceed with a QD. But I think at that point for another few minutes worth of time you might as well go with a wash.

Makes sense, Jeff, thanks. For sure, a wash after heavy dew or rain is the right thing to do. But I've always done a wash to remove any type of dirt, so getting my head around a mist and wipe product like Quik Detailer requires me stepping out of my comfort zone a little...

BTW, saw yor earlier post on using the leaf blower... I was also thinking of getting a small air compressor to blast water out of the crevices that regular towelling can't reach

Understand your concern. I did find minor scratches unless I stuck to my approach above. It was hard for me to get it through my head to keep my hands off the finish unless I could do it properly. I was QDing daily, rain or shine. Installed several self inflicted swirls as a result of my inexperience. But learned quickly.

I put out a post about how I did things and several other pointed out the weaknesses of QDing daily, irreguardless of weather. Live & Learn.

I am sure the air compressor will get the stuff out of the cracks and crevices. The leaf blower does it well for me. Usually I can get about 99% of the water off the finish now. Plus all cracks and crevices and I can hit the wheels, tires and wheel wells as I go. I just use the leaf blower as an alternative to toweling as this is one step in the process where I am not rubbing on the finish. After the leaf blower I generally hit it with a QD. But there have been a few instances where I just stopped after the leaf blower. The fractional amount of water I "may" have inadvertantly left is in the form of such small droplets that they don't leave marks when dry. At least not apparent on my white finish.

Another use for a Quick Detialer is just after a wash and dry to remove water spots/give the finish a little more shine. I use this method all the time after a wash.

As for the leaf blower/air compressor... I have both and prefer to use the leaf blower to remove the water from the cracks... it seems the leaf blower works a little better and is faster than the air compressor. Also I have a 30 gallon compressor and I can run it down in a hurry drying my vehicle, tends to use a lot of air. Just my .02!
