  • Detailed: BMW 5 Engine (Updated Photos)

Just some before/after photos of one of my customer's engine which hadn't been cleaned for 4 years. This is usually done everytime I completely detail a car. Enjoy!

You'd have to have a pretty thorough understanding of engine components to start detailing one. There's contact points to wrap, fuses, exposed wiring, performance upgrades (ala air filters)... the works! Not forgetting the number of cars we get here that have upgraded High Intensity Discharge lamps which have exposed parts.
Other than that you'd need a range of chemicals (eg: medium to heavy degreasers), silicone-free dressings, protectants, an air compressor and TONS of elbow grease
I get lots of performance, german and exotic cars sent here for engine detailing as we're pretty experienced but I'd still practise caution when detailing this area especially if your car has a bunch of electronics. HTH!

                    Looks great! Nice job!

I am hesitant to detail customer's engines for fear of damaging something.

Looks like you did an awesome job. What products did you use?

Thx for all the comments guys!

As for the products used, they vary from the Detailer line Degreaser, APC, Body Solvent for the paintwork area (as needed) and Silicone-Free Dressing. But there are times when I'd have to use other industrial-strength aftermarket degreasers as it has stronger cleaning properties on some really difficult engines.
Here's a tip. Always remember to wipe of excess residue!

Here's a few more shots of another detailed engine:

                              Hi Newport Viper,

I've not worked on a Viper before over here (I don't think we even have one in Malaysia) so I'm not in a good position to advice ya on that.

Perhaps one of the detailers here on Megs Online who have completed a Viper could help?
