  • Frustrated With Plastic Nose Clip

I usually have no issue with defect removal on metal painted surfaces but as we all know many vehicles have a front end that is made of plastic. Especially around the front bumper, headlights etc. It's that painted plastic that I can never seem to get as clear as the metal surfaces. I typically use the same pads and products I am using on the metal surfaces. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a different technique/product for the painted plastic? Thank you for helping.

What products/machines/pads are you using currently?

We would also ask what step are you specifically having an issue with? Removing all defects, getting the paint to finish haze free etc.

Meguiars MT300. I use mostly UC with thin maroon pads on the bad ones or I use the MT300 with D300 and the MF disc as well as the Extra Cut MF disc if needed.

Defect removal with the products listed in previous post. Haze not an issue. I did my friends Chrysler 300 M in flat back with terrible swirls and scratches the other day with Extra Cut pads and D300 and on the rear bumper (plastic) and the rocker panels and could not remove all of the defects??

Well, you know me, I say go more aggressive As I've read here from Mr. Stoops, the plastic can potentially heat up too much with excessive machine compounding, and so more cut will be better, and with shorter time and/or less speed and/or pressure, will further avoid harming the paint/plastic. If UC and D300 aren't cutting, especially using the Xtra Cut disc (been there, done that), I suggest the wonder-compound M101, or perhaps M100, on the regular Cutting MF to start, and back off the speed/pressure. Another option is wet-sanding instead (assume the usual disclaimers and precautions as that's a whole other discussion), then follow with D300.
