Pictures from Meguiar's June 22nd, 2023 Thursday Night Open Garage - Hand Painted Logo Removal, HR Black Wheel Cleaner, 5000 Grit 3M Trizact Re-Paint Improvement

We have had a great few open garage nights but I think word is starting to get out that Meguiar's Host Free Open Garage Nights with Free Pizza/Soda and is willing to help you learn pretty much anything about car care detailing! We are of course going to do some topic specific more formal instruction classes in the near future, so keep an eye out here on www.meguiarsonline.com, for info, that said, this is what our Open Garage / Meet Up Nights are all about. Come on down, ask us anything, and chances are we can give you a "crash" course on whatever it is you are looking to know more about.

Realizing I don't believe I have a bunch of pictures up of our new building at 213 Technology Dr. Irvine, CA 92618. I will have to take a bunch and post of for our forum members garage viewing pleasure.

I ran into (not literally) a friend of mind earlier in the week and him knowing my background, we discussed that he had some sort of hand painted logo he was wanting to remove on a new to him Volkswagen. I said your in luck we have an open garage night this week if you can bring it down we can show you how we would approach something like that. The logo was not cleared over upon testing. We proceeded to discuss as a group with the VW owner and Meguiar's very own Darin Pereira who has extensive collision/chemistry/detailing background on the pros/cons/risks. The owner wanted to remove it and we decided a combination of softening with acetone, and a single edged razor blade would be a good start. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME unless you are experience or have direction from a professional! One thing we will mention is you typically do not just want to go straight to sandpaper. It is best to get it off first, this is why we went with solvent/razor blade.

We followed with a coat of Meguiar's M27 PRO Hybrid Ceramic Sealant. Looking great! Safely removed. These pictures were not in sequence by the way, it took a couple hours at least to go through this process! At first it was coming off fairly fast. Then we hit some thicker areas and really slowed down. Then at the end back to coming off fast; the lettering was on much more thin than the other areas.

A Open Garage guest asked me if he could try our new Hot Rims Black Wheel Cleaner and I said "sure!" I don't think he realized that meant he would get to pull his car into the Meguiar's HQ Wet Bay and use all our awesome equipment! We don't always have time to do full washes or even wash all 4 wheels are open garage nights are more for helping you learn on a section, so you can do the rest at home, and we can get more people into the garage for their project, but it worked out at this open garage night.

I told the owner we need to have him back to shoot some content with his car because it matches the label perfect! Orange & Black! Check out that thick brake dust.

Remember to always work on one wheel at a time from start to finish when they are completed cooled down, ideally in the shade, read the directions on every wheel cleaner bottle as they can differ, use appropriate safety gear, quality accessories like our X1901 & X1902 Supreme Shine Wheel Brushes and rinse thoroughly!

I thought i had a better after picture, is hard to tell here but we were all blown away at the results honestly, the wheels were super clean with minimal effort.

One of the last projects for the night we had another VW, a little newer than the bug truck : ) where the owner recently had the two driver side doors repainted. It was hard to capture in picture but the repainted panels significantly lacked the gloss & depth compared the adjacent panels & the rest of the car. We have seen where some very light sanding can really work wonders for this situation and that is exactly what we did with some 3M Trizact 5000 Grit Foam backed disc by hand, with water.

After - Please note these before and after pictures and not completely accurate as some of the blurry look in the above picture has to do with the camera being out of focus but you will have to take our word for it and others can attest in this thread, there was a huge difference in minimal effort/time!
