A bit of a quiet TNOG for a change, but still with an interesting project for the evening.

This looks pretty terrible, huh? Swirls galore, but unfortunately these are in a clear bra on a C6 Corvette and not in the paint. This material just doesn't lend itself to correction like paint does but since not all paint protection films are identical we decided to play with this one a bit. It's so trashed that it's really due to be replaced, so we weren't going to make it any worse.

Our first go was with M205 on a yellow polishing pad, and it made almost no difference. We worked up to some aggressive processes, also to no avail.

So we thought about trying to just hide the defects as much as possible, but with what? M07 and other pure polishes/glazes are known for being able to hide defects quite well, but they don't last very long. So we decided to give D301 a go.

Two quick applications later and look at the difference! Is it perfect? Well of course not, but it looks so much better that you can actually see the metallic in the paint underneath the clear film.

Now, this is the actual paint on the hood of the Vette - it still needs some serious help.

Since the C6 Corvette is notorious for having extremely hard paint we opted for the DA Microfiber System to start.

This is after just the compounding step, nothing else. It was decided that the owner should do this, then swap over to foam pads with M205 to really maximize the gloss and clarity before applying wax or sealant.

Time for the owner to get a feel for the buffer.

A little demo about working on convex curves - keep the center line of the pad in contact with the panel and the pad will continue to rotate, even with some pretty serious pressure applied. As soon as you start to cantilever the pad off the panel the rotation will stop, just as if you angled the pad on a flat surface.

Kelly's tries out our new Black Wax on his 2011 Prius - very delicate paint on this car that is super easy to haze, but it loved Black Wax.
