  • Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - August 9th, 2012

The weather may have been scorching last night, but we still had a great time. We managed to fix some issues and give people the confidence and knowledge to bring their paint to a new level. That's what TNOGs are all about!

We started with a simple paint transfer removal from the front bumper of a VW Jetta. This is what happens when a garage wall jumps out and attacks your car!

Obviously the little chip on the body line of the wheel well opening will need touch up paint, but a little M105 managed to remove all the paint transfer and quickly take care of the fine scratches left behind by the impact. We'll let someone else fix the garage wall!

The headlights on this '98 Mustang GT were in desperate need of some TLC.

A little wet sanding with 1500 and 3000 grit, then a quick polish with M105 and M205 did the job.

The results are clear to see!

    More activity out back.

A badly weathered vinyl top on a 2000 Mazda Miata benefits from some Ultimate Protectant.

We love dogs here at Meguiar's!!

Back to the Mustang and the badly faded rear bumper. Ultimate Compound on a W8207 foam polishing pad with the DA buffer.

    Now that's more like it!

Time to let the owner finish off the bumper so the car didn't drive around with a strange half-and-half look.

Another night of water spots! These looked and felt nasty, and they weren't a simple wash and wipe off sort of situation.

This is the same panel after a few passes with our DA Microfiber Correction System. No more water spots, just glossy paint with great reflections.

Once the water spots on the passenger side of the car were eradicated, we moved back to basic skills teaching with the car owner. He has a new G110v2 but wanted to make sure he uses it right. Here we go over the finer points of DA buffer use.

    Detailing is fun!

A few final pointers before the car owner is turned loose on his car.

Everyone kept a watchful eye to make sure he deviate from proper technique.

The end result after Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and NXT Tech Wax 2.0 is this deep, wet, glossy paint. Remember, this was done by a first time user of the DA buffer!

Meanwhile, more activity in the parking lot. Does the '64 Chevy wagon look familiar? It was here back on June 7th, but it was looking a bit tired and dull back then.

This is the '64 Chevy back in June when we first saw it:

Back then we devised a plan involving M105, M80, M07 and the results on the passenger side of the hood are obvious.

Well, in the month since then the owner has spent many hours on this huge car, and look at those results! No wet sanding, no rotary buffing - this was all done with a G110v2 DA buffer.

Look at that - an actual clear reflection in the paint; fantastic!!

Bob...maybe it's because you're not retaining a lot of the stuff over the years so it feels like you're learning something new, but it's actually stuff that you forgot? JUST KIDDING! =D

Wow looks like a ton of fun!!! I wish i was there to join in the fun!

The water spots from the Sonata looked nasty but it was no match with the DA Microfiber System. It's truly an awesome system.

Hi everyone – sorry for the late update—I was enjoying the remainder of my summer break in New York.

I’d like to again extend my utmost appreciation to Mike for his excellent instruction and patience while teaching me how to use the DA! Also thanks to everyone in attendance for the advice and support.

One of my neighbors, whose car also has nasty water spots as a result of sprinklers, thought I bought a new car! Haha

I’m ecstatic about the results and look forward to future detailing endeavors.

                    -James
