car preperations for holloween?

I load up the shotgun... Just kidding! I make sure the cars are in the garage, and tend to be a bit more watchful outside.
As an aside, I really hate Halloween. It's not a holiday of anything significant, and it results in a lot of property crime. I imagine it is stress on parents worrying about whether or not there are any weirdos in the neighborhood that their kids may have gotten candy from.

Well, I am an idiot when it comes to Halloween.
I bought candy and put it on a table outside with a sign that said please help yourself to reasonable portions.
Within the first few minutes we were out of candy. I think someone took abotu 20 pounds of candy.
To make a long story short I turned off my lights but people kept comming. My Honda Accord got egged too. I took my hose outside to spray it off and saw more kids throwing eggs at the car, so I sprayed them too. I don't think I got the kids very wet but they stopped.
My wife yelled at me and told me I was mean. I was on the coutch for a week after that.
It is one thing to TP a car, but it is another to egg a car that is detailed. When someone puts 4 to 10 hours of work making a car look perfect and someone eggs it, that to me isn't a funny prank.
I have decided since I am not going to physically hand out candy, and kids can't appropriate reasonable allotments of candy, I am not buying any candy to give out this year. My wife on the other hand is going to be home and will probalby do the whole Holloween thing by herself and be mad at me for not helping.

its either they dont understand the extend of the damage they are doing. or they enjoy destroying other peoples prize pocessions.... either way they should still get their behinds whipped till theres no skin left... and show it to the rest of america on public television as a way to let them know the consequences... that i think is the only way to effectively decrease vandalism... too bad this would be considered a cruel and unusual punishment....Last edited by benhui86; Sep 4, 2005, 10:21 PM.

Well, I don't condone cruel and unusual punishment or child abuse of any sort, but I understand where you are comming from.
You are right in what you said for the most part.
1. They don't understand the extent of the damage they are doing.
2. They don't know how much work went into the detail.
3. It is obviously a prank intended to be funny to them, and they probably think egg just washes off.
I doubt they actually enjoy destroying other peoples prize pocessions. If they did you would have gotten a rock through the windshild or a brick thrown at the hood.

Ask any teen with a car what would they do if someone egged their car and you'll find out what they actually know about paint on cars. Which is part of the reason they find it funny to do it to someone else's car.
2. They also don't care how much work goes into detailing or that the person that owns the car/house, might have to pay to get the mess cleaned up or painted over.
Most kids that do this type of thing on Halloween, know that most people won't find the damage until the next morning, and if caught they won't actually get into any real trouble by the home/car owner/police. Heck even if caught red handed they will laugh about it once they are let go.
3. Yes they think it's funny and they know that it does not just wash off if it's there over night.
It's funny to these types of people that do this sort of thing, that you have to take time out of your day to try to fix a mess they made. The old... "If it's not mine, why should I worry?". That is the mind set is at work here.
4. The reason they don't throw bricks or rocks is that many of them are of an age that they may go to jail, rather than juvie, and they know that an egg will be look at as a prank by the police if they are caught and the police are called, where as a rock or brick will not.
And the case of little kids doing the egging and paint gunning, they were most likely put up to it by the older kids, that know if they were to go it and get caught, they might land their rump roasts in jail for the night. But having little kids do it, it will be looked at as harmless fun (and they can get the little kids scared to death when/if they get caught).

Sounds like word got out about the free candy help yourself house, and since there was no more for those that came later... why not pay "Them" back for closing up shop early?
Good for you squirting the kids, but it would not be looked at as harmless if their parents had been brought back to your place. Light sprinkle or Fire Hose soaking, would have been all the same to some parents who view they children as doing no wrong. Why? Because their kids and adults that are not raising them are not allowed to tell them they can't do what they want to do even if it's wrong. (at least in some parents eyes).
My wife yelled at me and told me I was mean. I was on the coutch for a week after that.

The thing is it's NOT suppose to be funny to the person that get's pranked. And they actually don't care if you find it funny or not. Repeat after me... Their kids they DO NOT CARE.
And if it was local kids that did the egging or put them up to the egging, they DO know that you spend time on working on your car to make it look nice. And in their mind set, you will be doing the work anyway, so might as well help you along with it be giving you something to actually do the next time. Repeat after me... Their kids they DO NOT CARE.
Besides TP cost more than eggs do.. Or Mom might notice TP missing before eggs.
I have decided since I am not going to physically hand out candy, and kids can't appropriate reasonable allotments of candy, I am not buying any candy to give out this year.
Well these are the same kids that you feel don't understand that other peoples property should not be messed with, so why would you think these kids would want or care about taking "appropriate reasonable allotments of candy"? Repeat after me... Their kids they DO NOT CARE.
In their world, it's "Get mine screw the rest of the world", for the most part. Kids in general are pretty self centered creatures. Most were taught, that your stuff is your stuff and no one else should be allowed to mess with it. But of course that translates to... "But it's ok to mess with other people's stuff if you think it's funny"... (to them anyway). Repeat after me... Their kids they DO NOT CARE, unless it happens to them of course.
My wife on the other hand is going to be home and will probalby do the whole Holloween thing by herself and be mad at me for not helping.
My take on Halloween, let the person that wants to decorate and give out candy, do all of that. I can find other things to do that "I" enjoy that night. So for that week you are sleeping on the couch, may as well spend that time doing things you enjoy, catch up on your reading, balance the check book, clip your toenails.

wouldnt it be nice if eggs were to be treated as serious as bricks.... the damage done would not be cheap if u were to have to make it totally disappear like that 3 series eventhough most came out there were still scars left behind.... either u'd have to find someone whos really good with touch up painting or have to have that little section repainted... if kids threw a rock at a window and broke it, cost like around 100-200.... detail job if done by professionals 100-200....
