    The Avatar Thread

Once in a while I get asked,

    "What's an Avatar?"

It's easier to explain when your by a computer and you can pull up Meguiar's Online, otherwise a quick explanation stating an Avatar is the little picture under your name on a discussion forum.

I don't know why, but I kind of like making Avatar's out of cool pictures for others to use. I notice some people's Avatars are fuzzy, blurry, or distorted and that takes a lot of value away from the Avatar because it's a small picture to start with.

A few years ago while trying to make my own Avatar, the image software I was using kept distorting my pictures when I would resize them, this sent me on a search to find software that could resize an image without distorting it and hopefully free software. This is how I discovered Easy Thumbnails which I'm happy to say works perfect!

I later went onto write a simple tutorial on how to use Easy Thumbnails to enable newbies and people that find learning how to use software difficult, an easy to read and follow guide for quickly mastering the Easy Thumbnails software.

If you have a cool picture that you would like turned into an Avatar, you can read this thread, How to put pictures into your posts as it explains everything you need to know about working with photos inside discussion forum environments like Meguiar's Online. Once you learn how to work with photos on our forum, you will be able to use these skills on any discussion forum you are a member of.

Once you learn how to work with photos inside the vbulletin environment, (The software used to run this forum is called vbulletin), and you've created your Avatar, reading the below tutorial will show you how to add your Avatar below your name.

    How-to Upload Your Avatar!

If after reading through the above articles and tutorials you are still having difficulties creating your Avatar, simply e-mail me your picture and I will create an Avatar for you.

Below I'm going to start a collection of Avatar's that are free for the taking if you need an Avatar. Simply decide on an Avatar and then follow the instructions found here to add your Avatar below your name.

Note: From time to time a new member mistakenly uses an Avatar for themselves that doesn't comply with Meguiar's Forum Rules , specifically this one,

    8. Only appropriate pictures suitable for all audiences will be allowed, this includes avatars.

If this is the case with your Avatar, you may return to our forum to find your Avatar deleted and/or replaced with an Avatar from below.

          I am now.

I might change mine to that old Edsel.

But that Magnum avatar looks nice too.
